Ok, so I have read a TON about hairless rats and have decided to get two male hairless rats. I just have a few problems :S
First, I need a breeder is Portland Oregon (or beaverton, tigard, and gresham). I know that they do much better with a same sex partner but, I am someone who chooses favorites. I will probably prefer one over the other (maybe not though) but also, I just want to know how they do alone. I already have names for them too For the larger male Peregrine (the real name of Mary from Lord of the Rings) and the smaller one Pippin (the smaller brother of Peregrine from LOTR) In the movie their last names are Took but should this be included in their name? And the reason I might prefer one is I usually like the smaller one, or maybe one has a better personality. I don't want this to happen but I want my rat to be happy so I am going to. I am still trying to like both my dogs the same lol.
i try to find one trait from each one that I like better than the other.

Just wondering, my cage is big, and i want to house more than two. i have two at the moment that seems like they could get along with other gerbils.

I have done research on both, and both seem wonderful, but I am wondering which would be best for me.

I only have about $20 to spend per month(can make more. This is just allowance), and I would prefer something that is very hardy and doesn't need to go to the vet very often(given the correct living conditions, like dustless bedding for rats)

I love how playful and curious rats are, and have no problem with their tails, but I also like the cuteness and simplicity of a hamster.
I have a lot of space for either, so that is not an issue.

Help? I'd like to make my decision before x-mas, so I can ask for supplies for x-mas!

I've read good things about rats as pets. I have a little boy and I'm looking for a small animal that will be entertaining and people friendly. If you let a rat out of its cage, will it socialize or run and hide?

They have always been in the same cage together. Also, should I take in her a box she can't see out of so she isn't frightened by the changing scenery, or would she actually enjoy looking around? I don't want her to be traumatized after the whole thing.

I am wanting to make my chinchilla a Christmas Tree. I know i must sound like a lunatic, but her cage will be the only thing not decorated this Christmas.LOL
Anyways, i have popsicle sticks, a wooden 'base' for the tree, and little wooden 'presents' that i know are all ok for her to nibble on. But i have a huge problem...No way to put it all together. I would imagine glue won't be too good for chinchillas. And i know sisal rope is fine, but that would be almost impossible to attempt. So any ideas on how i can put this together?

My younger brother is looking to get some pet rats, however i find it unlikely he will do a lot of research. Are there any rat owners out there who can give me some tips in order to help my younger brother out. What are some of the most important things to consider. I do have experience with animals i have a dog and a 20 gallon tank of tropical fish however i have never dealt with rodents. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Okay I've decided to get a small pet, but I have no clue which one to get!! My choices are a hamster, guinea pig, mouse or rat. I want a pet that for the most part will be affectionate, allow you to hold it, and not bite. If you could give me your input, and which one you prefer, it would be much appreciated!!

I have been considering getting a gerbil for a pet, but I'd love to hear from gerbil owners and the basic care of them. I've done some research online, but I know there's plenty more for me to learn. Here's a little background information on my home:

I'm a teenager, so I do go to school. My mom leaves for work at 10 and I get home from school around 2:30, so the gerbil would get plenty of attention and be able to run around in an exercise ball and be handled every day. I have a sister, and she can also help care for them.

I have been thinking about getting a pair of gerbils to keep each other company. From what I've read, they do best in pairs.

What brand of food that I can find a petco or petsmart do you recommend? What toys do you recommend putting in the aquarium? Do you recommend letting them run around in an exercise ball? How is your gerbil's home set up? What is the health care of gerbils like? Do they easily get sick or have other health problems (tumors, etc.)

Thank you.

She got her tiny claw stuck in between the metal slider I put on the cage that locks in the fun tubes on the side of the cage. Her tiny claw could have been stuck there for god knows how long and she was trying to bite her hand off or bite it out. I gently poked her hand free but her claw was pulled out of her hand and I think she started to bleed a little bit. Will she be okay? What should I do? She is also very old (over 2 yrs) and has possible tumors on her butt. I feel so bad for her!! Help!!! She kept on licking her hand to clean it and walked slightly with a limp!

My girlfriend wanted to buy two pet rats a few months ago and turns out shes allergic to them and her reactions are getting progressively worse. Where can these rats find a proper home? We don't know anyone personally that wants them.
Does the humane society take them?
