My daughter is interested in buying a rat. My two biggest concerns are 1.) do they stink? (I had guinea pigs as a kid, and they stunk to high heaven), and 2.) do they bite? (I had gerbils, and they bit all the time). However, I have no experience with rats. Can you help?

I have three robos, two male and I think they are about a month old or lesser and a female which is way bigger than the two babies. I was wondering if i could put all of them together in the same cage but I'm afraid the larger one might kill both of them. I heard that if I bath them in bathing sand and wash their scent away then put them all together they might socialise, but I'm not very sure. What should I do? I hope someone could give me a definite answer, thank you.

So anyone have a real reason why we take a poor creature who belongs in the wildlife as a rodent (squirrels, rabbits, coons, etc) and keep them locked up only to watch them suffer and die within a few weeks?

I have two mice and one died. :( there are several possible reasons (there are no visible injuries, i believe) but disease is still one possibility. Do i need to change the cage or can i wash down the same one (with soap, thoroughly)? Also, the one mouse left is alone and they are supposed to be social creatures. The mice are/were ~4 months old. I shouldn't get a new one because they are older than new mice, right? then how do i deal with the loneliness of the one remaining?

washing them as well as their bedding doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

I HAD 5 pet mice, 4 females and 1 male. 3 of them had lived happily together for a year, and the 2 other females had been in the tank for almost 3 months with no problems. I opened up their tank yesterday and found the bloody tail of one female, and the half eaten carcass of another. What could possibly have made them turn on each other like that?

These are the only slightly out of the ordinary things that could have upset them:

-I just removed a litter of 10 nearly full grown pups. This is not the first time I have done this.

-I had forgotten to feed them that morning. They usually get fed twice a day, but I had slept in that morning and had not fed them. They DEFINITELY weren't starving.

-I hadn't cleaned the tank for a longer period that usual due to finals. I was only about 4 days overdue, and it wasn't too dirty.

- I recently got a cat that likes to sit on top of their tank and watch them. He's been around for nearly a month and they didn't seem bothered before.

My friend's daughter was messing around one day(about a month ago) with some friends and placed her pet rat on the head of one of her friends. The friend freaked and threw the rat and it ran off. They see it every once in a while but have been unable to catch it. What would be the best way to catch it without hurting it?

I have heard her make noise before, but she never makes noise anymore. I have had her for a while but that doesn't seem to work there. When i pet her she doesn't make any noise. When she is frightened she doesn't make any noise. I am about to consider giving up. And i can't buy any more because my mother won't buy me anymore. So what do you suppose I do?

I just noticed it this morning. Only the end of it (probably 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch) is bleeding. He doesn't seem to be itching or scratching it. I am not putting creme on it or anything. Do you think he will recover?

I have recently bought a dwarf hamster a few weeks ago and everything seemed fine. Now he has been acting a little strange, been getting up often during day, and just seems different to me like he's not himself. I noticed under his chin (before his belly) he is losing some fur, what does this mean? Can he be sick? I thought that losing fur was something that happened when they were older (like 3 years old). Someone please help me?
