well i was watching him before i went to bed, and he was sleeping but he wasnt in his house, he was in the corner. i did not put any bedding in the house, is that why he isnt sleeping in there? do i need to have him sleep in the house or is he just fine where he is? also on the package of the bedding it says to put 1-3 inches of bedding on the floor, do i need to put some on the 2nd level of his cage also? and the last thing i wanted a little help in is that he hasnt used his wheel yet. it came with the cage so maybe it isnt of greatest quality, maybe i should get another? or is it normal that he doesnt use the wheel for the first full day in the cage? ty.

My daughter's dwarf hamster is about 6 months old. Today we noticed that she has a bald spot on her back. It is not sore or sore looking and she is acting fine. She is not itching it. We do not know if this is some thing to be concerned about. Thanks for any info!

We bought 2 female guinea pigs from our pet shop when they were 9 weeks old. To my surprise a few weeks later I went into the hutch one morning to discover 3 baby guinea pigs cuddled up with their mum and auntie. We then discovered the auntie (Ruby) was pregnant too. She gave birth 2 days ago but sadly died, along with 2 of the babies. We are now left with the 2 orphaned babies. We put them in with the other mum (Rose) and her 3 babies. One newborn still had the placenta attached and she ate that and cleaned it up straight away so we were hopeful. She did feed it a little but never for long and less enthusiastically than her own 3. The other one was allowed to cuddle up but could not even find a nipple to feed itself. I could only get it to feed by holding the mother up and latching it on myself. I was advised by a vet to top up their feeds myself which I have been doing every 2 hours. They feed well and have been nursing a little aswell and eating solids. How long should I?

well im planning on getting a hamster today and ive done some research. what i am concerned about is that i do not have a cage and was planning to buy one at the same time that i buy my hamster. but on many sites it says that i should have the cage at home first. will this be a problem if i do not have the cage set up for my hamster when i get him/her? also if you have tips on what types of things to buy, such as bedding and woodchips and which kind of food to get my future hamster? which kind of toys can i get for him/her? ive seen that a spinning wheel for the cage is a must so i already have that written down but what else can i get? ive also seen that hamster yogurt drops are good for hamsters and was wondering what price range they are. if you have any tips like bright eyes, dry tail, and one that doesnt bite are there any other tips like this when buying a hamster?

My daughter just got a pet mouse for her birthday. We're having some trouble coming up with a name for it. I've just been calling it Mousie. The kids call it SF for Sh*t Factory, thanks to the hubby's comments when we were bringing it home.
Anyway, the thing does need a real name though. Any ideas?
BTW, she's shot down the obvious stuff like Mickey or Scabbers.
Oh, and Mousie is a boy.

They were all in a "wooden home" for the last couple of days and last night she just took the babies out of their nest and made a new nest in her wheel-why? Her wheel is on top of the cage and up a spiral staircase, it is enclosed so the babies will never be able to get out of there. What is she doing? Thanks for your help, I wasn't prepared for the "guaranteed boy" hamster that I got from the pet store to suddenly switch sexes and reproduce!

On Saturday my mom got me a hamster for my 16th b-day that just passed on sunday!
I named him Ollie. Cute lil guy he is too!

Thing is.....
All he has been doing since I got him is sleep and wake up every few hours, stuff his cheeks with food and scurry back to his corner. And he hasnt been drinking any water at all either :(

And along with that, his ears have been glued to his head....arent they supposed to pop up? And around his tail area is wet....does he have Wet Tail, possibly?

I'm really worried. Is Ollie ok? What can I do? :(

I have a dwarf hamster and its always chewing its cage and plastic tunnels. I know it has to do that because of its teeth. But i baught it some shew sticks and even a chewable little house that he can chew on and sleep in. but he does not like them he only chews on the plastic, and its loud and since they are nocturnal some times he doesnt let me sleep. any suggestions. and no i will not get rid of him, i rather put up with the noise. thank you!

i just bought her.

shes verrry fat and cute :] but she keeps her eyes somewhat closed, but i know they aren't stuck. is she just sleepy?

i know theyre not stuck because in the car i looked at her and shecan open them just fine. also, she went to sleep in the corner when she has an igloo in her cage. so i had to PUT her into the igloo so maybe she'll get the habit.

does this all sound normal for a new hamster?
my last one wasnt like this..

I have three male mice, two brothers from the same litter and their dad, they all climb on the bars of their cage and pee... the dad does this more than the brothers. It's really gross and horrible to clean and I don't know why they do this. Any ideas? Is there a way to discourage this?

Okay this site is AWSOME, I love all your answers! Okay, so now can you help me decide one last thing, is a Guinea Pig or a Bunny easier to take care of, and which will most likely have the most energy? Thank you!

I live in Northern Ca. When I go out to my yard I feel tiny little bites on my arm. They are not the normal dog and cat fleas. They are very very tiny black pest that is skinny and narrow. I need to know what they are called and how to KILL THEM!! They bite just like a flea and I know what fleas look like. I have had flea problems and they don't look like them.

I read some books about both of those rodents, and I have the basic idea of how to take care of them. So now I can't decide: G.P.s or Gerbils. I live in Texas, so heat is the main problem, but that's why A.C.'s invented.

They chew on the bars of their cage or dig obsessively on top of a cardboard box or tube?

Or is that just something they do?
