Look at www.petfinder.com, or check in your local shelter! DO NOT buy from a pet store. Pet store guinea pigs are almost always sick, and you can end up buying a pregnant guinea pig from mis-sexing. Even if you think you're buying a male, it can end up being a female.

I bought my guinea pigs from a pet store, and they had lice, mites and upper respiratory infections. Luckily they weren't pregnant!

Also, before you get a guinea pig, please check out www.guinealynx.info and the care guide that they have. You'd be surprised how much work guinea pigs actually are, and you're much better off knowing what you need before you adopt a pet.

DO NOT breed or BUY while shelter animals DIE!

Homeless guinea pigs in shelters need homes. Petshops should not be the first place you go to (they should be your last resort) as they get their guinea pigs from backyard breeders and breeding mills - buying from them with only support the breeding of unhealthy pigs.
Petshop guinea pigs are often unhealthy and shy as a result of being brought up in horrible conditions.
Shelter guinea pigs are treated and handled so make friendly pets.
So try a rescue centre first, if not look in the paper for families with unwanted guinea pigs, then go to a RESPONSIBLE breeder, your last resort should be the petshop.

Please consider adopting a homeless guinea pig from a local shelter or rescue. These piggies desperately want a loving home. You can find a rescue or shelter near you by visiting www.petfinder.com

The majority of the time, the piggies in pet stores have upper respiratory infections or mites. They do not care for the animals and are only interested in the money. Please do not buy from a pet store.

The best place is in the Humane Society. They have alot waiting to be adopted. If by chance there is none there, then look in a different one, or go to the pet store if you have to.
