A male long hair or golden Syrian hamster is the best choice. They are the least likely to bite, now the younger untamed ones may bite or nip at first until they get used to you. If you've never owned a hamster before, any nervousness is picked up by the hamster and will make them nervous of you as well. Of the 18 Syrian we have, 12 are males and 10 of those are long hairs. Rarely have we had any nipping from the older ones, now the babies (3 of them) took a few weeks to teach them we meant no harm and they now rarely nip also. Most bit due to the fear of something larger then they are so put yourself in their eye and try to see what they see which isn't too far also. They have limited vision and go by smell. So when taming the hamster, try offering a small treat or even piece of food to them for at least the first week (like a peace offering) before trying to pick the hamster up. We also had a trick of feeding them then picking them up with their pouches stuffed full. They have no chance of nipping or biting this way, but they may spit the food out some to try. We give lots of kisses and soft talking when in the process of taming too. It does help when they know their loved.
PS If one does nip, be careful not to throw or drop it, many do it as a reaction without meaning to. Start holding in the cage for safety at first or over a bed.

Roborovski dwarfs
There the least likely to bite
and dont really even bite when there proper scared
but if its your first hamster then word of warning...
robos are so small and very very quick so are not easy to handle... Also dwarfs need cages without bars cuz they escape through them.
If it is your first i would reccomend a syrian. They are the biggest and although they do bite they are the easiest to tame for cuddles and their ears are so cute. If you get a syrian though only one hamster per cage cuz they will fight to the death.
Chinease are very nippy and also fast.
If your looking for the most entertaining they say robos but i think syrians rock!
Good luck

A Syrian hamster. They're also known as Golden hamsters, but they're the same species. They're also the largest, so better for cuddling. I've had 2, and was never bitten by either. :) They're quite slow and don't jump which also is good as they're easier to handle. Because of their size you don't need a cage with tiny bar spacing either, which gives you more options when buying the cage. Remember though, they need big cages as they need space to move around easily so they don't get fat and depressed.

Well every hamster might bite you. But the way for them not to bite you is to "tame" them. That means to let them get used to you. You do this by holding your hand out to the hamster. Don't put it over his head cause that will scare him and he may bite! You just streach your hand out flat and let him smell your hand. When you first buy a hamster let him be alone in his cage for 2 days so he can get used to it. Then slowly try to touch him. Don't make loud noises and don't put him near a door where he can get a draft of cold air. When he is awake try petting his back and not his face!....after a while if he doesn't come to u hold out a carrot to him and coax him into your hand....he will warm up to you...or you can hold a door open and let him come out then scoop him up. Or use a roller ball to catch him...once he's in the ball let him roll around your house then when you go to take him out...let him walk out onto your lap then scoop him up slowly and let him learn to trust you...it takes patience....don't be scared of him cause if your scared he can sense that. His bites don't hurt though if he dose bite you. Also don't eat food then touch him cause he might think your hand is food. Wash your hands before you touch him and after. Good luck. I love my hamster!!

The best kind to get is a Teddy Bear hamster.
If you get them when they are small, handle them softly and often so they get to know who you are.
Don't get Dwarf Hamsters, they bite often and for whatever reason.
Also, ask the pet place you are getting the hamster from.
They should have hamster care sheets for you to take for free.
Have fun.

ANY animal can and will bite at some point, so if you are scared of a little hamster bite, avoid hamsters at all costs...

Roborovski hamster is least likely to bite, a little more expensive and not all pet shops sell them but worth the price.

in my opinion the dwarf hamsters dont hurt as much when they bite but mine would bite A LOT! the regular sized ham hams i had didnt bite as much and were a lot easier to handle because they werent so tiny. as long as u dont hurt or bother it it shouldnt bite you.
