I was brought up to believe that rats are *always* vicious but fortunately I've learned the truth-- they're absolutely awesome, smart, funny, amazing, snuggly companions.
We've had several over the years & it's very rare to see an unrepentant biter. We've seen shy rats blossom into friendly & affectionate, depressed rats become happy & have watched how they teach each other--and us--the games they invent.
Currently, we're blessed with 5 rats-- a pair of PEW brothers who will be 2 yrs old next month, a hairless girl who's nearly 1.5 yrs, a black hooded girl who isn't quite a year & a bareback dumbo girl who is about 6 months old now. We don't breed them, although nothing is cuter than a litter of rat pups, so the males & females are long-distance pals only.

Rats have been stereotyped for years now, almost forever. I have two pet rats, and all my friend's parents hate them. They are sterotyped. Also, when I first tell a friend that I have pet rats, they're like, "What?!" or "Eww!" They're street rep is bad. Also, people don't like the rats' tails. But, of course, rats are the cutest ever! They are like small dogs- they are smart, sociable, and know how to take care of themselves. Personally, I think rats are great!

I've had rats constantly for the past 5 years. I have 2 males right now and I love my rats. I think that a lot of people still think that rats, wild or domestic, carry diseases. It might be true for wild rats, but not for domestic rats. Other people just think they're ugly. I don't know how though.

My niece had a pet rat. Thing is, I didn't want anything to do with it but I agreed to rat-sit while they went on vacation (I love her -- what can I say) -- well, it turne out the rat was a blast. I took it's cover off the cage to put food in and he tried to crawl out and I said "get back in there" and IT DID!!! It was so funny!! OKAY BUT.....there are rats that live in the wild and THEY CAN BE AND USUALLY ARE dangerous so you have to pick your rat I suppose....the ones you get in pet stores haven't been living in garbage cans (I hope ha ha).....but yeah.....at least I experienced it and he was pretty cool. I don't want anymore animals anymore though.....but I learned to understand him/them a little.

I love them, I am owned by 2 and I am holding on to one (who will be almost always at my house or with my rat at my fiances house) that my fiance took from my sisters friend who couldnt keep her anymore. The 2 that I have are crazy one is almost blind and the other is mental because I kept her alone (stupid me) for 5 months but she is the sweetest thing. I plan on getting a tailless show rat in the future but I have been trying to find a breeder near me because Id prefer not to ship.

while i replaced right into a kitten, i replaced into *terrified* of rats b/c i might heard they have been continually untamable & vicious. I desire i might nicely-known how captivating family members rats could be so i'm going to have enjoyed their companionship that plenty faster. We at the instant share our abode with 6 completely amazing rats & have been blessed with many others over the years. they're candy, smart &living evidence that public opinion many times has no longer something to do with how issues extremely are. video clips & television notably much consistently portray rats as evil, or @ the very least, as repulsive scavengers or disease-ridden vermin. There are too few movies like Ratatouille, Flushed Away, the secret of Nimh or maybe Charlotte's internet. Even the Engish language is anti-rat-- while somebody betrays us, we are saying they "rat us out" case in point. there is even a nil.5-joking campain to place rats bigger in public esteem via renaming them "super Pointed Archers" (do a internet searce, it extremely is a giggle & enlightening).

I have 3 rat boys myself and I love them to bits and peices!!! I agree with you, they are like mignature cats and dogs but much better! My boys love to chase strings just like cats and adore being pet!
Peoples views on rats have gone a long way but sadly ALLOT of people still look at them as vermin, disgusting and dirty animals. People like that live in a society that sometimes fear them and fail to intruct them otherwise.
I hope one day the whole world changes their attitudes towards these wonderfull animals... the tamed and the wild ones.

I recommend them as the friendliest rodent. They're really great if people can get over the tail. My sister has had several and they were great pets.
