On August 18th, i got 2 hairless rats (Jack and Oreo--they're brothers). About 2 weeks later, i got a hooded rex (Shyloh), so that he could keep the hairless ones warm during the cool weather. About a week after that, I noticed that Shyloh was playing a littlle too rough with Jack and Oreo (not like being mean or anything, they were just playing, and Shyloh's claws were scratching the hairless ones skin, very frequently), so i went out and bought Shyloh's cagemate from the petstore (another hooded rex, who is actually Shyloh's brother), so that way whenever Shyloh wanted to play rougher, he could do so with his brother, Tucker. About 2 weeks after that, i fell in love with a brown dumbo rat i saw at the petstore. So i got him, and named him Remy! (He actually had to go back to the petstore 3 days after i got him so that they could treat him for a repiratory infection, and i just got him back last night.)

I am the proud owner of two very tame pets. one, a male lionhead rabbit and the other a female syrian hamster. The hamster is 10 months old and the lionhead rabbit is 6 months old. I would like them to become good friends. I don't expect to put them nose to nose and cuddle each other; i just want them to like play nicely. I have already held the bunny close to the hamster while the hamster is in her cage, but will they be ok together outside their cages? If accidents can occar, please tell me so I can keep them seperated.

How do you determine a hamster's gender?
How do you know if they're pregnant?

OK, so my hamster has a little pot belly. She looks like a pot-belly pig. And she also looks like she has a wet tail. I looked up wet tail on google, but I couldn't find anything that said they get fat. She seems ok. She looks a little sick, but not like she's in pain, just tired.

So when I just went up stairs to take pictures of her she was shaking like she couldn't walk that good, but that could have been because I had to wake her up.

Please don't tell me to take her to the vet because I'm not doing that. I love her but I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollar to take her to the vet. If all you are going to do is tell me to take her the vet don't bother responding. Because I know half the people that say to take hamsters to the vet wouldn’t take there hamster to the vet.

These are pictures of her. Numbers: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 17. Manly numbers 17, 3 and 6.

I have two female rats. I house them in a cockatiel cage. I used Carefresh bedding, as that worked well with my gerbils, but one of my rats couldn't handle the dust and continually sneezed from it. I changed over to Yesterday's news and the sneezing stopped immediately. I clean the cage out every other day due to the smell. It's terrible. It was terrible even with the Carefresh bedding. The rats get bathed every other week and I clean the cage with bleach (completely scrubbing and rinsing so as not to harm them). I am finding that urine is seeping underneath the pull-out tray and forming a puddle until I take it out and scrub it down. I don't know how the urine is getting there but it smells simply horrible. Anyone else have this problem? I know they shouldn't smell, but my housemate is getting to the point where he wants to bring them to an individual that takes in unwanted rats. I love my rats. I need to find a way to keep down the smell. I also use Bio-odor in their water.

My cat bought back a baby mouse tonight. It's a bit ruffled so we're keeping it for the night to make sure its ok before releasing it back in the field. What can I feed it, that I'd have at home (ie not rodent/hamster food).
And would it be safe to release it in the field - will it find its mother/family?

I have recently been given a tame rat, she is not too bad for being picked up and doesn't bite as long as you havn't been handling meat.
I work with birds of prey and I am starting doing educational visits to kids parties with my owl, I am already set up with a company that organise witch and wizard themed chidrens events and was thinking about using the rat for these parties (obviously not alongside the owl or we will be a rat short).
What I am wondering is how intelligent rats are, can you teach them simple commands or even just to respond to thier name.
I will be using her in an educational sense so will be showing what they would do naturally.

I give him plenty of food, and he ends up flipping it over all the time. I refill it every time. But now I'm getting to the point where I think I'll just super glue it to the cage so he stops wasting food.

I thought maybe he didn't like the food I was giving him, so I bought something new... nope. Still doing it.

my father is totally against me getting a guinea pig, but my mother is allowing me to get one as long as i keep it in my room so his opinion is moot anyways he is always coming up with cons against getting a guinea pig some of which are they will make your whole room smell of their cages even when cleaned everyday, they have oily fur and many others but these are the main ones i am concerned about, are these true? i have also read that if there cages are larger they wont smell as much i am planning to make a C&C cage so it will be pretty large so will it make my room smell horrible?

they like my first piggy but they wont let me get a friend for him. i know hes lonely because he makes this one kind of squeek when he is lonly. any ideas how to convince them. i have already cleaned my room and i cant talk about it till nov 4th so i need to know how to convince them. i think there desision to keep me silent was a bad one because it gives me time to plot out exactly what i will do. anyway any help will be appreciated. thanks

so my guniea pig melody just died.

i wasent even home to say good bye.

this just made a bad week worse.

my room looks so empty without her.

poeple say she was just a rat but she has been there for me a for a really long time.
since about 7th grade.

she was there to watch cartoons with me when i had mono and no one else was home.

she was so funny when she would run around her little house like she was a race car driver.

she loved to be with people.

when you would walk by my room all you had to do was say squeerks and she would go nuts.

i rember when i first got her the lady at the store said she was a boy..then she had babies lol

yea she was a pet..but to me she was more..she was a friend

and she is gone now..just like that..

no good byes
no second chances
