okay, first everyone can calm down. Yes. You need to take the little ham to the vet. Now. No, you do not have a deranged killer mutant hammie on your hands. Chances are very good your tiny ham hurt its leg very badly - broken, caught in something, badly cut, something along that line. In that case, in an attempt to save itself, yes, the hamster will gnaw off its own leg. Chances are, if the problem was bad enough the leg was already starting to rot. I don't know how often you handle your ham or how closely you look it over when you do but chances are that back leg was hurt already and your ham is trying to survive. On the kinder, gentler side of things - hamsters nerves actually tend to shut off to wounded areas so hopefully your baby isn't in a lot of pain. But it does need to be taken to a vet who can handle what's wrong much better than a tiny rodent with a brain the size of a pea. Take the poor little thing in and let someone who's trained take care of that leg before it really does kill your little ham. This isn't the kind of thing that you should just wait and see about.

Ok i am not sure why there is no blood. But you have to keep the cat away from the hamster! Its not fair for the hamster to be afraid or torchered by the kitten. Make sure you wash your hands BEFORE you touch her you dont want her to get a infection because that would be a good chance of her dieing. If you can't aford a vet then that is a prouablem , if thats the case try to keep her injury away from the wood hips or bedding so that it doesnt infect it. Maybe try to let her live on a old towel or blanket for a while until her njury heals. (put the old towel as long as its clean in the cage instead of the normal bedding. I hope your little buddy is ok. My hamster passed away a short time ago because she got injured and i think she became paralized ... she died over night. So i hope your hamster is ok and try not to make her move to much. It would be bested to see a doctor although i dont think they can do much. Good luck. :)

That is absolutely very unusual for a hamster. Take him to the vet ASAP before it causes an infection or if the hamster does more harm to himself.

Take the hamster to the vet because the wound could set up an infection and the poor little creature could die.

I don't know if you let it heal, but you should take it to a vet. If it is grossing you out I perfer you either say good bye to it and let it die. It may seem sad at first sooneror later you will not regret what you did.

He needs a vet asap. If it gets infected the hamster will die. It needs to be checked out, cleaned and bandaged. He might need to be put on antibiotics, either way please get to the vet asap.

if the leg that is looking dead is the half he bit off, I would wait to see if it doesn't just fall off. rodents are extremely resiliant creatures and I find it hard to beleive a leg amputation would kill it. If its the leg still attached and it has become infected you will need to amputate farther up the leg getting back to good flesh. try at a joint if possible. then wrap the wound to control bleeding. keep it clean and it should be back up and around in no time
