When the hamster becomes sexually mature, (in 4-6 weeks), you will have no problem telling. The males have rather large testicles (they'll be the large, pink things poking out from behind). However, when they are very very young, the males can be told from the females with a trained eye. (The two holes, urinary and anus, will be further apart on the males and fairly close together on the females. Again, a trained eye will be able to tell how "far apart" that is supposed to be.) See below for a link to an illustration.
If the hamster is pregnant, you will know quickly because she will start to show very soon. (Pregnancy only lasts 16-18 days.) They tend to get very large within a week.

if they are pregnant they will start eating more and making a nest, anlso get bigger. and with geneder then females have a more rounder end even as babies and their holes are much closer together. i had no trouble telling the gender of my hamsters when they were a few weeks old. hope this helps.

you could tell if a hamster is a boy or a woman via their length an attitude. Male hamsters are in many cases larger in length and as in all rodents the testicles are particularly great. women of direction are smaller, have nipples, no testicles, and are greater aggressive than men.
