If they are not dwarf hamsters, you should not put them both in the same cage. Separate them immediately before they kill each other.

You could try the split cage method for a while and see how it goes, heres a link for it to explain how it works:
http://www.geocities.com/padfoot_82/rodentsetups.htm
And heres how to build one:
http://www.twinsqueaks.com/split-tank.html
Also I heard that if you buy a new tank or cage for them that neither have been in before and introduce them both at the same time they might accept it as both of there territory, don't know if this actually works but you can always use the second cage if it doesnt.
Also are the two hamsters brothers, if not chances are theyll never get on!

You do not put mature males in one cage . Thats a no no. As they mature, they are better off in separate cages.
Hamsters do not need company . Thats the usual reason why people buy 2 hamsters, but its a false assumption. If you want to breed them its fine. They will stand each others company and if the cage is big, they will be only too happy to breed and make baby hamsters.
Buy another cage. They are cheap.

When I first got my hamsters I watched what they did. They didn't get a long until a few mintues or an hour later. I just watched what they did. About a year and 5 months later one died because they got eaten by the other one. Not a pretty sight. Just try to be careful, I would put them in a different cage, but theres another solution I thought of. Try holding them and putting them close together, I tried that with mine. Or build like a cage and see if its possible for them to help eachother escape. Good luck with you hamsters. ^^

I would keep the dwarf hamsters in separate cages, next to each other, for a few days. Then introduce them on neutral territory several times. If they arent trying to kill each other by then, try them both in a clean cage.

What sort of hamsters are they, you can keep the smaller variety together I forget what their called now they only live eighteen months.
But the normal hamster should never be kept together as you've found because they will always fight.

well i have hamsters and they started fighting. For a while i put one in a differnet cage. Then when i cleaned the better cage i put the 2 in together at the same time. it has to be pretty much the same time cuz hamsters r very protective of their territory and home. If u put one earlier the one put in earlier would think its his house.

After so many weeks, 2 male hamsters unfortunatly wont make friends because its their natural instinct to fight for their territory
