My 2 year old Roborovski hamster is running in circles like she is retarded and I am worried because she is having trouble getting to her food and water because she can't go in a straight line. What is the most likely cause and the best course of action?
Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like a neurological problem, like she had a stroke. You could take her to the vet but sadly it maybe time to put her down.

If she isn't able to eat or drink it is pretty serious. Take her to the vet it could be as simple as an ear infection but it could be lots of other things, unfortunately this is a costly thing to do but most likely your hammie is suffering if she can't eat or drink. And yes it may be time to put her down in the most humane way possible, the problem is putting down hamsters is painful for the owner and the pet because if you get the injection to put her down it has to go directly to her heart, so if you go to the vet and have to put her down ask for the options and avoid the painful injection to the heart.

She's just exercising =] It probably gets boring running on a wheel all day, so she'd rather run around her cage sometimes instead. If you'd like, you could get her a run-about ball, which made my deceased hamster very happy. My other hamster, who is still living, hates her ball =D, but yours might enjoy one.

I can't believe nobody came up with the most likely cause, which is an ear infection. Put a drop of warm oil into the ear (or both ears) to sooth it; and look for some antibiotic for rodents at the pet store.

like the first person said, it sounds like a neorological problem. If you want to know for sure, a vet will be your best bet. Though they might not know exactly what is wrong, they might have an idea

she is a retarded animal, joking. she had a stroke and you should take her to the vet right now! the vet might tell you to pay to put your hamster to sleep, like for $100, don't do it. take her home and let her die on her own. I'm sorry to say this, but she is probobly going to die soon.
