In all honesty, it's marketed based on how people will like it, not animals. SImilarly, the way pine and cedar are STILL very popular. Or you would often see things like "cheese" flavoured crackers for mice and rats only because the typical person knows about the stereotypical mouse/rat liking cheese when in reality that isn't very healthy for them. Or things like leashes and harnesses for rodents or even tiny lizards which will actually break in half if any one tried to put that on them. Or even the more common non-thermal clothing for dogs or other animals. The list goes on and on. In total reality, there is actually very, VERY little pet owners NEED to buy from a pet store. Some necessities can even be home made for most animals. But if the pet stored kept to this, they would make hardy the profit.

Habitrail in particular is one of my most hated brands. First of all, the plastic. It has hardly the ventilation a wire cage has. The old stype "space" or "safari" cages at least had some wires, but this new one is worst than an aquarium (you should know that an aquarium isn't ideal because amoneo builds up and the cage needs to be cleaned 2-3 times a week, while a wire one only once a week). I also think that any plastic cage isn't best. Plastic can get scratched (especially if you're housing rodents) and bacteria builds up easily there. This agian needs more cleaning, but can also be a health hazard if left alone for too long. Plastic also cracks easily. Metal has none of these problems. Another thing about both OVO and habitrail in general is it's appearence. Notice how it looks all interested and colourful. Almost like a child's toy. Did you know the percentage of child-teen hamster owners are higher than adults? Making attractive cages to kids is great campagning, but the darn hamster couldn't care less about what his much-more-expensive cage looks like. Yet another think I dislike is the actual tubes. First of all, some have VERY sharp turns that a particularly large hamster would have touble moving around comfortably. Yeat another thing, which totally puzzles me, is how hamsters can comfortable go up and down a PERFECTLY vertical, and very long, tube. Habitrail also issued a mice-specific cage which was exactly like the hamster one, only smaller. I have 4 mice, one of which is HUGE. If I bought him that cage when he ws smaller, it would have worked out, but I honeslty can't imagine him living in something like that at his size. I used to say that everything is apet store was one size exadurated. A hamster cage is actually for mice. A rat cage is actually for hamsters. A "large" two-level rabbit cage is actually for rats, so on. Then how could they be stupid enough to overlook something as obvious as larger animals? It simply looks cuter when the cage is all compact. This reminds me of Aquababies, or bettas keps in flippin cups.

To conclude, I would NOT recommend anyone buys this. Unless you seriously love the appearence and don't mind doing the extra cleaning, and buying replacement parts if they break, it's an alright cage. But I would save money, time, and an unhappy pet and just get a plain old, much larger cage.

Oh I just remembered, I once saw a habitrail parrot cage (it had cockatiels housed in it for display). Well is was also JUST like the old safari/space one. Two walls completely plastic, and the other two only half wired. Hmmm... Parots like to climb. They would use a wire cage as a toy to cling onto and excersize. How ever did they think of putting parrots into a plastic box? I wonder if they house their's in aquariums... Anyway, it just proves that this sort of "matching" cutness is nonsense, and totally for the people buying it, not the animal.

Okay, I'll be plain about this, I HATE the OVO, I don't have one, But I ve seen pics and the main living station where the wheel is, I saw a pic of it witht he lid up and a hamster in there (syrian) That Main living area is WAY WAY too small! all that cage is for is so owners will say COOL! Colors and shapes I have never seen in a hamster cage, in fact it is no different than any of the other Habitrail cages as far as "mimicking the natural environment" Hamsters natural environemt is a dirt burrow where it can expand it's home anyway it wants, not a tiny plastic ball! And I thinkt he water bottle set up they have for it is stupid, it is the normal bottle (only very small, not enough water for a syrian hamster) that is crammed in a tiny add-on tube, the syrian hamster would have to lay on it's back to lick that water bottle. I only house my hamsters in regular wire cages or in aquariums with wire lids, they may not be "cool" and they may not have stupid add ons, but they are sure much more confortable for the hamster!

I hate HABITRAIL!!!!!!!!!!! They break so easy!!!! I love CRITTERTRAIL!!!!!!!!!!! There are lots of add ons and lots of different cages, different sizes as well and fun colors!! I recommend an up grade to a Crittertrail hammie home IMMEDIATELY! lol All though the idea of the ovo maze is cool it will cost money every couple weeks for the new mazes. And the insides of the ovo isn't a big or fun enough space for you special hammie friend or friends.

I had on OVO cage once. The tubing was gross. My hamster would pee in it, and let me a tell you that cage took some tooth brush scrubbing..my hamster chewed ALL OVER that cage and kept me awake most nights. Get a wire cage!

I n my opinion the ovo is fantastic I have a dwarf russian hamster and it suits her fine there is enough room in the main compartment for her to use her wheel and I have plenty of tubes and dens for her to play in she shows no sign of unhappiness and although at first I thought it looked odd it suits A J down to the ground
