I just saw a huge rat the size of a cat and it ran past me in the kitchen. i freaked out and it ran underneath the floorboards, but we gotta catch it because we dotn watn ti running in our rooms. how?

Get a rat trap and tie few pieces of cereal or sunflower seeds with thread to the metal trigger plate and cover it with peanut butter. Mice/rats love peanut butter!!! Now, place it perpindicular to the wall where you last saw the rat. Don't listen to "MISSY" about rat choking on peanutbutter. She obviously knows nothing. Don't believe me, call a rodent exterminator and ask them if rats like peanutbutter.

Wow, you must have some really small cats.
What you need to do is nail a board or a flattened out tin can over the place where the hole is. Find every hole in the house big enough for a cat or rat to enter, and seal it off.
Maybe I sound facetious, but really that's what you have to do. Block their entrances. It won't do that much good just to catch the rat, as there will be others coming in.
Regular rat traps baited with peanut butter are good. But rats often won't touch a trap until it's been there a few days. They want to make sure it won't move.
Poison I don't recommend, as the rat will eat it and then go outside, and a local cat or owl may eat it and die. Also, another animal besides rats may eat the poison.

Rats can choke on peanut butter!! It wont be the size of a cat, maybe the size of a newborn kitten but not even the size of a kitten when you first get it (at 8 weeks). Keep all your doors shut, Block off all entrances into the house small enough for a rat to get in, Block off the floorboards it ran under?! Its sort of obvious.. Don't use poison, its cruel. Just block it off, Leave no food lying round and shut your doors.

Get a giant rat trap, or a wire mesh live trap. Then you can do with it what you will.
Either that or get an even bigger cat!!
