I noticed that my hamster's rear is kinda wet. But she's all playful and stuff. She's eating properly and playing with her sister properly... How do I know whether it's wet-tail or if the hamster is just not being the cleanest hamster ever? Please help I don't want to lose Muffin now ;_; I love her so much and so does Marshmellow, her sister!!!!

I had two female rats but now only have one as I lent the other one to someone with a male so they could spend some time together. The single one is running all over the cage and seems to be upset and unhappy. When I bring her friend back will things be OK. Will I have to separate them again if the other one is pregnant?

I need a regular supply to keep the cage clean. I was thinking of solicitors as they must shred a lot of confidental paper. It seems a good idea to put paper in my rats nest that has come from a rats nest!

Our 2-yr-old PEW suddenly became very lethargic & lost interest in eating. His eyes had a lot of porphorin but he didn't seem to be having a myco flare-up although his breathing was occasionally a bit labored. His eyes seemed a bit glazed, that's the only way I can explain it. I was able to coax him to eat a little & we'd planned on taking him to the vet but he went downhill very quickly & we lost him this afternoon.
He seemed fine right before he got sick. Could this have been a stroke or possibly a heart attack? Are there any subtle warning signs we should/could have been aware of? His brother is obviously depressed & we're giving him extra attention. Thanks for any insight/advice.

I just got two rats 4 days ago and I've been trying to get them comfortable outside their cage or when being held. Whenever I try to get them out of their cage they still run away even after I let them sniff my hands for awhile, and whenever I do get them out, they squeak like mad even though I've been doing the same thing for the past 3 days, getting them out for about 30-60 minutes and letting them run around or sit my shoulder. They still seem to be scared or nervous of everything. Does it just take them time to get used to everything? They seem eager to get out of the cage when I open it but as soon as I put my hands in or try to scoop them up, they dash into their little house and won't crawl up my arm if I hold it out for them.

All yesterday he was running in his wheel and climbing up the side of his cage. When I woke up today, he was in his fod dish. I thought he was dead because he wasn't moving and felt cold but he walked really slowly across my hand. I think he's sick. What should I do? I've only had him for about 2 weeks and he is still really small.

I am a first time guinea pig owner, and I have had my guinea pig since Tuesday. She is very shy and just sits in her little igloo in her cage, sleeping or bathing herself or thinking or chewing chew toys that she drags in there. She only eats or drinks or comes out when she thinks there is nobody close by. She doesn't like to come out; she puts up a huge fuss when I try and get her to come out (I haven't held her in days because she squeals and cries and I don't want to hurt her) but once she is out she relaxs and becomes very sweet.
What should I do?
Is she sick?

I got a rat from Petco. Everyone says you should get it from a breeder but I don't know any. The conditions where good there and the cage was clean she hasn't had any problems yet but I was thinking about getting another one from Petco.
Should I?

My hamster became sick on monday with wet tail
she also had prolapsed intestines.
last night she went out of her little house and was very active even went on her wheel and it seemed like her prolapsed intestines disapeared.
We thought that she was getting all better. we even gave her pedialyte.
this morning I found her not moving in her little house. she is curled up and seems stiff.
Is she dead or just hibernating?
how long should we wait to make sure that i dont bury her alive and what are the sure signs that she is dead.
please help!!!

I dont want my ratties to get their feet hurt by walking on those ridiculous wires, what can I use to cover up the wires on the cage floors? It needs to be sturdy and easily cleanable.

Hey.

I know alot on Rats, I have 7. My problem is one of our Babies, probably half a year maybe. His name is Remy, and he got hurt. I am somewhat alarmed by his wound, but, he does not seem effected by it at all. He is just now in the cage, where it is safe, since the other 6 boys are running around. Yea, I have 7 male Rats. Were planning to get them Neurterd.

So. What do you think about this wound? It is not bleeding or anything. Click link for a pic.
