What a great gift!! How about food, a water bottle, a food bowl, a chewing block, treats, a little house or "nest" where they can hide is necessary, a care book, and some bedding (don't get pine or cedar as these types lead to horrid health problems) (try a brand called "yesterday's news" or "carefresh") also you could get some timothy hay but no alfalfa because it gives them an overload of calcium over a period of time. A note --- If you give it veggies, dont overdo it. It can make them very sick if they have too much. Hope you your friend have great times with the little guy!!!!! Good luck!!!

A large cage with a deep pan and a door that opens on the top of the cage, large hanging water bottle, heavy ceramic food dish, salt block, pine litter, guinea pig pellets, a book on guinea pig care, maybe a little hiding house and a friend because guinea pigs are a social animal and really like to be in at least pairs.

Guinea pig food. Mix in veggies once in a while, but not lettuce, it's water content is too high. Fresh water daily, wood shavings (pref, pine) on the cage floor. Important tips-

1) Use a water bottle. These things are dirty and will pee in their water bowl

2) Have an abrasive stone in the cage so they can claw at it .
this is how they keep their nails trimmed. They tend to grow long and curl under.

3) Give them a hard piece of wood or bone to gnaw on
This will keep their teeth healthy.

4) They like to hide. A small box or tube works well.

Well guinea pig food of course. They love lettuce but get them carrots too. You should also give them something they can chew on. If you want them to become more docile be sure to play with them at least twice a week or more.
