Hey.

I know alot on Rats, I have 7. My problem is one of our Babies, probably half a year maybe. His name is Remy, and he got hurt. I am somewhat alarmed by his wound, but, he does not seem effected by it at all. He is just now in the cage, where it is safe, since the other 6 boys are running around. Yea, I have 7 male Rats. Were planning to get them Neurterd.

So. What do you think about this wound? It is not bleeding or anything. Click link for a pic.

The wound is open though, it is like someone sliced off his fur/skin and it is just...tissue and mussle there. It is too large for a bande to close. He seems fine, he is running around and being normal.

We have some human (same thing?) neosporin. I was considering useing a light gause material, then a bandage over it to make it stay, but I know him and he will mess with it

Ok. Well yea I know about the special glue. But the wound is wide. He is eating normal, everything, he is playing. Yes I know prey animals hide their pain, as in any animal. He seems fine, and it is closeing up. We put a little Neosporin on the edges, we did not want to put it in the open part.

*The Spray on Bandage Should work really well and keep a deep wound really clean!, and antibacterial cream is ok for them to. And Spray on is less invasive and easier then putting on the brush on liquid.*

I've seen worse, but still, any boo boo is alarming on your baby. Heres what to do:

Clean the wound 2 times a day gently with a q-tip (I find they work best) I Found some Wound antiseptic wash that was safe for them, but it was a while ago I had to do this.

Distract Ratty for a minute or two to let it dry

Use Spray on Bandage to cover the wound (some contain Antibacterial stuff that works good)

Distract the Rat to let it dry and/or Put Gauze or something over it Gently (don't let it get stuck in the Spray Bandaid) Use Medical Adhesive tape and put it over the wound. It won't last long but the time it takes the rat(s) to get it off it will be dry and prevent crap from getting in.

Fransis Has a Fatty Tumor that was on her side that reptured and I had to do this for a long time... I think she enjoyed removing the tape with the other ratties. It never pulled out much hair. Great Distraction!!! But the Spray Bandage will keep the wound Cleaner for less cleanings. Plus the less you irritate the wound the better it heals as long it's kept clean.

My Rats that looked like that Were Mishka and Onxy :)

And with any "Baby", a hug and kiss make everything better :)

Good Luck!!!

Ok, I would be alarmed at this, if I saw that on one of my ratties. If possible, purchase Neosporin and apply it to the wound 3x a day (Neosporin is harmless if another rat licks it off, but that's why it should be 3x a day, since he's housed with other rats, a lot of what you put on will be licked off). You need to at least try, though. Don't want that to get infected. Do you know HOW he got that wound? Was it from a scuffle with a cage mate or what? Keep a close eye on him, and if you see him being picked on by the others, you may want to separate him in another cage (and pick a friend or two to keep him company) until the wound is healed.

P.S. I used to have a rat of similar coloration. Mine was female, and her name was ''Jade''

We've used Neosporin on our rats when they've been hurt & it seems to work well-- we haven't lost anyone from an injury or abcess. You could *try* the gauze but I doubt it will stay in place & it might bother your little guy. Keep a close eye on Remy to make sure he's eating, drinking & that the wound isn't becoming infected.
Rats can heal amazingly fast-- but if you're in doubt whether Remy may need antibiotics or even a suture, please consult your vet.

AHH! That is awful! That is exposed, raw, pink flesh. Poor rattie..I think you should take him to the vet..rats hide pain very, very well since they are prey animals. Best thing to do would to take him on a quick trip to the vet. It shouldn't be any more than $70-120.

You should consult a vet! Infection is the biggest worry. A vet could close the wound with some stiches or at least cover it with the special glue. Good luck!

Oh my God!! If you are worried which I would be, See a vet. How do you know the info. you are getting on line is valid. Some psycho might want to see you hurt your pet and give you the wrong info.
