my hamster went missing last night, he's somehow escaped from his cage and could be anywhere in my house!

My house is quite big, anyone know a technique i could use to find him?

Thanks!

Get a bucket and fill it with some of that fabric cushion you use for your hamster to sleep in and add some of his favourite treats and food. Then get some books and make a kind of ladder leading up to the bucket and put some treats on each 'step'.

Oh, and if you put some food in the corner of each room in your house you might be able to locate which room your hamster is in. Try and keep the doors closed so he doesn't run out into the next one, and keep all dangerous stuff (like loose cables and wires) out of the way.

Hopefully your hammy will be inticed by the food and will eventually land safely in the bucket. Good luck!

Get a glass jar or container (like the ones you might keep pasta in). It must be fairly big. Pile up two or three books into a "staircase" and lay the jar down on its side, propping the top up with the books. What you should have will look something like a slide, with no way out! Sprinkle a little of your hamsters food and favourite treats into a trail, leading up the books and put some in the bottom of the jar.

The idea is, your hamster will follow the food trail up the books, into the jar, and won't be able to climb back out (due to the glass being slippy). And voila!! You have your hamster back!! Also forgot to mention to keep the heating turned on - if your hamster gets cold, he'll hibernate and you won't find him for weeks! So keep the heating on and he'll be more active.

Good luck!!

PS Or you could try a humane mouse trap.

leave some food strategically placed in each room of the house. ive had the same problem (mine was under the bath, but unfortunately he was never caught). when u spot any missing food then u can keep the door closed in that room to make sure he doesnt venture else where. one way that people use to catch their hamsters is to use a good sized bucket with a folded towel inside, with books used as steps leading into the bucket. also put a trail of food into the bucket to attract the hamster, and a small dish of water. hopefully the hamster will climb the books and drop into the bucket, the sides being to slippy for them to climb out. the towel at the bottom prevents the hamster from causing any damage to its body. if that doesnt work then u could use a HUMANE mouse/rat trap that does not harm the animal in any way. again, use his food as bait.

OKay.
1st you need to get some of his favorite food cute some up and put a piece in every room. Wait a while and see witch room has food eaten off of or gone. THEN you know what room he's in. Look around a lot, if you don't find him then put some more food in and find a place to sit at... you must sit there for a long time and be very still. Try to hide yourself. This might take hours but it will work. Give the little guy time and be still and quiet and he will come out sooner or later. Put water and maybe his favorite toy there too.
Trust me on this one.
Hope you find it.
~Good Luck~

The first thing to do is to look in some common hiding places. Do a thorough search as soon as possible after you lose your hamster, remembering your lost hamster is probably scared and will look for a secure hiding spot:

Start your search near the cage and go from there.
Check behind and under furniture, as well as down the sides and backs of sofas, under cushions, etc.
Check cabinets, drawers, shelves and bookcases. Don't forget to look inside, behind, and under items kept in these places.
Check the underside of furniture and beds for any holes through which a hamster could climb inside the furniture/bed.
Check inside any boxes you have around the house, including tissue boxes.
Look inside any backpacks, purses, other bags, and shoes.
Check the undersides and backs of appliances for holes into which your lost hamster could have climbed.
Look for holes or spaces under cupboards or that could lead into the walls. Make a note of these for later.

Tracking a Lost Hamster
Unfortunately, it may be next to impossible to find a lost hamster. You may not even know which room your hamster is hiding in. Here are some tips on tracking hamsters:

Remember that hamsters are nocturnal, so will probably only move about overnight.
Place a small pre-counted pile of sunflower seeds on the floor in each room. If any seeds disappear from a room, that gives you a better general idea where your lost hamster is hiding (unless you have any wild mice that are stealing your bait!).
Sprinkle a little flour or cornstarch on the floor around the piles of seeds. A trail of little white footprints may lead to a hamster's hiding place.
Similarly, sprinkle some flour across doorways and in front of any suspected hiding spots (like spaces under the cupboards or holes in the wall, as noted on your search). Check for footprints to see where your hamster is travelling at night.
In the evening, try placing tinfoil or crinkly cellophane on the floor (concentrate on possible hideouts, doorways, and around the cage or food), turn out all the lights and sit quietly. If your lost hamster comes out, you may be able to locate it by the noise made as it walks across the foil or cellophane.

We had a hamster when I was a kid,he escaped so many times from his cage that we changed his name to Houdini in the end!(totally True) God knows how he used to get out we couldn't work it out and never did! He tended to find warm places to sleep,we caught him a couple of times in the hosepipe of the Dryer!! Think like you're a hamster and think you're that size and where would you go to sleep, somewhere nice and warm.Good Luck...just don't let him get outside as he'll definitely be a goner then.

this happens all the time @ my house here is what you do:
first- put little piles of hamster food in a corner of every room
close all doors so he stays in one place
check every once in awhile to see if the piles have been rumagde through
it may take awile but don't worry!

while you are waiting check his cage for holes or openings you may want to get a new cage or cover the holes

(whatever you do, don't turn on the vaccuum!)
hope you find him!!! good luck!

I once lost ahamster for about a week. I ended up putting some hamster food in a little heap on the kitchen floor and surrounding it with seived flour. I then traced his little footprints and put a humane mouse trap down. I did catch him, so it's maybe worth thinking about

close each door and window on your residing area. Then, discover each and all the places he could conceal and placed a bowl of hamster nutrients in front of them. be careful utilising issues like Ovens (so which you do no longer roast Sock). Any bowls that have truly much less symbolize the place Sock is. stable good fortune looking Sock!
