FIRST of all, males and females should never be kept together, unless breeding.
Is it a Syrian or a dwarf? Dwarves can be kept in same sex pairs. Syrians are territorial, they HAVE to live alone. they DO NOT get lonely. Syrians WILLkill eachotherif kept together.
The answer is no. They will mate=bad.

OH NO don't put them together!!!! Hamsters are territorial and she will probably kill him. Not to mention, you wouldn't want that anyways because they would have little baby hamsters (8-15 a litter!) and you would need separate cages for each of those as well. He bit you because you don't handle him much. They are itty bitty and easy to scare. Be gentle, and slow and pretty soon he won't bite at all. I have a teddy bear male and he's the sweetest thing now but when I got him he was a biter too. Trust me he's not too lonely. Hamsters aren't as social. He'd be fine if you never played with him, but then he'd be totally wild and you wouldn't be able to touch him. If you want to start taming him, here's what you do. Put some oatmeal in the palm of your hand and set it in the cage. Be still and patient and let him crawl into your hand and eat it. When he's on your hand, pull it out slowly, and you can pet him while he eats. Watch it when he gets to the bottom, he might bite you thinking that you are oatmeal. I've done this with all three of my hamsters, and it works really well.

Two things...
1. You have to say whether you have Syrian or a Dwarf. Dwarves can usually have cage mates (preferably litter mates).
2. If you want a male & female, what will you do with the babies if they breed? Do you know anything about raising hamster pups? If not, then do NOT mix genders!
Hamsters can be nippy, especially if they don't know you very well. Are you handling him properly? They can bite for more reasons than the ones you listed.

If you have Syrians, absolutely not. Syrians are solitary and will kill each other regardless of sex. If you have dwarf hamsters, they are social and can sometimes be kept in groups. It is preferable to keep them in same sex groups to avoid breeding. A pair of hamsters and their offspring will lead to at least over 200 hamsters in one year. They must be kept separated by sex.
As for biting-hamsters will bite for many reasons. The most common reasons are that they smell food on your hand, they are used to being hand fed, or they are scared. You must be very patient and gentle so he doesn't get scared, and you should be sure your hands do not have a scent on them. Biting has nothing to do with hormones. Adding another hamster will not make any difference with the biting.

Maybe this is not all that obvious - if you get him a mate they are going to have sex and have baby hamsters. Is this really what you want? They have a lot of babies, very often.
Hamsters are perfectly happy on their own, yeah you could get another one if you wanted, but don't do it for the hamster's benefit.
If it bit your hand it's almost certainly because it was afraid, not any of that other stuff. Remember hamsters are very small, be gentle and let them sniff your hand first before you pick them up.

Well don't blame the little guy for that, he bit you probably because he's not used 2 human contact and stuff, what you need to do it tame him*spend at least 30 minutes with him daily*, he won't bite you after that.... If you put a female chances are he will mate with her, then you'll be stuck with a LOT of baby hammies...

it depends, all small animals have their own personalitys. you will definatly need to worry about breeding, were will the babys go? do you have a safe environment to put the mother in? do you have enough food for them? as for the fighting usualy they get along if they r brought up together. but yes there is always sadly a chance of them fighting in which case you will need to have two cages.

Putting a male with a female will lead to a few offspring but it will stop their fighting. If this is a pairing from the very beginning there will be no fighting unless the male is a pushy devil.

Sometimes, they just bite you because they're cranky or tired of being bothered. If you put a male and female together, be prepared for babies galore!!!!
