10 gallons is way too small. If you need temp housing, use a bathtub with towels and shavings. Put water in a bowl and have food in there too. A place to hide is also good, cardboard boxes work.
Use a tub that you don't use for bathing or anything else in that time period.
www.gunieapigcages.com is good for building a cage of your own cheap. It can be as big as you want.

With any aquarium and certain animals like guinea pigs, rats, hamsters etc. it isn't a good idea to keep them in them. The reason is that the buildup of ammonia from the urine can inhibit proper respiratory function. The best thing to use would be like a cat carrier if you are only putting him/her in it for a few days. If that is not avaible and you are in a pinch then an aquarium would suffice. Just be sure to keep the bedding clean and if you can't change it durin that time frame them at least let them out every few hours or so. Other than that they should be fine AS long as you have a open wire lid so that they can get fresh air. Typically a cage should allow for enough room for the animal to move around and away from any areas completly (such as the potty spot) and not so small that the food and such is close enough to the waste area. If the G. Pig can comfortably lay out without touching the sides or anything then it would suffice. If your Guinea is not a little baby and an adult instead then the aquarium idea is not the best choice and you should go with a plastic cat carrier with a mess door. I don't have a guinea pig but I do have bunnies and when we had to evacuate for a hurricane that was the best thing I used on such short notice. But it was only a temporary fix until I could get back into his normal cage again.

The reason they make the cages with the wire on top is so that there is a sufficient circulation of air. If you have an aquarium, there won't be a change of air, it will get stuffy for your guinea pigs and might lead to respiratory infections. In addition, it is likely that it would get too hot for them (it would act like a little greenhouse), and guinea pigs are very susceptible to heat stroke. Marchioro and Ferplast do reasonable cages, but don't get the size they suggest for guinea pigs as they are too small. For two guinea pigs the Marchioro Tommy 120 would be OK. If you give them cocoons or waffle blocks as bedrooms, and put hay in there, as well as some hay in a hay rack (so it is off the floor) you'll find there won't be so much hay chucked over the side. Not "none", mind you, just not so much!

Select a smooth bottomed cage (no wire bottom, ramps or shelves on which they can catch their feet). A small covered house or box inside the cage will provide a sense of protection and a place to sleep. If separation from other household pets is not an issue, an open-topped enclosure may allow you to interact with and pet your cavy more easily.
Not Recommended: Aquariums and plastic tubs are much too small and have poor ventilation. This type of housing isolates the guinea pig from it's surroundings by limiting sight, sound and smell.

Absolutely not! The length of a 10g is almost the same as the size of the guinea pig, and the width....poor thing probably cannot even turn around in a 10g tank without a lot of struggling.
What is the guinea pig in, during the day time, and why must it be in something different at night?

I believe I would pick a cat carrier over an aquarium. Just not enough adequit air flow in a
aquarium, which will make them sick.
Good luck, God bless.
