Try the HM Revenue & Customs offices, hey you never know you may find some discs and loads of confidential documents simply screwed up as well.

Hi Joking, oh sorry Joe King... you are good! Anyway be wary of using shredded office paper as some of the ink used is toxic and the same goes for newspaper and so can be dangerous to small animals [ not always but better be safe then sorry ]. if it is just for their bed area you can use kitchen towel shredded into strips...yes you do end up spending money but you can usually get a bumper pack of 6/8 rolls for about £4 which will last you ages even if you give them lots! Try not to go for the really cheap bumper rolls as when you tear them they can be dust like around the edges which can cause respirotory problems for small rodents hence why people are recommended not to use sawDUST now but rather woodshavings etc. Or get a cheap shredder and a cheap bumper pack of plain paper and do it that way.Or as people have said you can buy bedding from pet store and depending on how many rodents you have it still maybe worthwhile. So slow on getting you at first, but finally do!!! Update; Just read alphas answer so maybe steer clear of paper.

according to risk. i've got used newspaper to line the cage for years, and not one of the rats has had a concern with it yet. (I regularly use fleece bedding, however the rats do in some cases rip up the newspaper lining). Newspaper is often risk-free, whether the inks can rub off and make your rat seem slightly grungy. maximum papers now use non-poisonous vegetable or soy-based inks. this is uncommon for a rat to easily consume his bedding. They do shred it and organize it with their mouths, however, so maximum suitable to stick to papers revealed with vegetable inks. If doubtful, call the paper and ask-- this is a very hardship-unfastened question and somebody there'll comprehend. There are a pair of financial recycled-newsprint beddings so which you may purchase at a much bigger puppy save. i does no longer use colored copier paper, tender colored paper like unsolicited mail, magazines, merchandising supplementations, etc., as this is harder to be confident what form of ink is used, and a few of those papers even have specific coatings that could irritate your rat.

Be very careful of the types of inks used by some printers etc, I had rats that were allergic to printer ink so using untreated shredded paper was not good. I ended up having to buy mine treated from pet smart.

I tried this but the rats got the odd cut on their feet and a nasty one right under it's eye.
I can't definately put it down to the paper but pretty sure it was, just be carefull on what paper it is, the thickness/grade may affect it.

I dont think this will help but in my opinion, I think you should actually use commercial bedding. It's probably cheaper. But if not I would actually use newspaper and shred that up. I think it would absorb better.

Why don't you buy a shredder (they're very inexpensive) and make your own?
Shredded newspaper is the best, as it's absorbent.
Shredded paper from offices etc, is unlikely to be absorbent.
