My hamster became sick on monday with wet tail
she also had prolapsed intestines.
last night she went out of her little house and was very active even went on her wheel and it seemed like her prolapsed intestines disapeared.
We thought that she was getting all better. we even gave her pedialyte.
this morning I found her not moving in her little house. she is curled up and seems stiff.
Is she dead or just hibernating?
how long should we wait to make sure that i dont bury her alive and what are the sure signs that she is dead.
please help!!!

Ok. So you'll see her proper? She maybe sound asleep. Blow on her if she flinches she's adequate. If now not have anybody else come by means of and ensure she's handed after which bury her. two out of two of my beyond hamsters died of their sleep with their eyes closed.

Every time I've had a hamster die, they become very stiff, their coat doesnt even feel puffy anymore, and their eyes look completely lifeless, losing all shine.
I would totally recommend looking at the eyes and
looking closely for the smallest movement caused by breathing.
But by everything you described I would think it's probably dead.
Sorry if thats the case :( - I've had my share of crying over hamsters too.

sometimes a very sick hamster will will become stiff and immobile, it may even seem dead. try to wake her up a few times, she may remain limp and stiff for a moment but if she is alive she will begin to move. if she doesn't wake, she is probably dead, so sorry.

what were you treating her with? at work, for hamsters with wet tail, we force feed them a few drops of pepto-bismol with a dropper and add a tiny, tiny bit of pedialyte to their water. we also wash their bottoms to keep them from getting clogged, and only feed them 'pet block' and/or oats, as seeds are too rich for a hamster with wet tail.
all that is done twice daily.
it's also important to change their bedding much more frequently than you would normally.

i hope your hamster is okay!

ps. this is what i mean by 'pet block':

She's dead if she doesn't move when you touch her, she's not warm & not breathing. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards. I found better luck with pet rats because hamsters are so succeptible to wet tail. Bury her & hold a nice little cemetery.

well i think you should try to awake it, very gently, put a finger on its chest, and if u feel the heartbeat, then u hv a won case, its alive. Try to give her then some water, fruits and keep her warm!!

when my dwarf hampster died I picked her up, not knowing she was dead, and she was really cold and stiff. (then I screamed and dropped her back in her cage... I was 9 then.) sorry about your hampster, I hope she's not dead.

Well usually when an animal dies, as you said, they get very stiff. My brother had two rats and when they both died they also went stiff. It's almost hard to move them type thing. Also, I don't believe hamsters hybernate.
