I've got a 6 month old female rat and I need some things that will keep her warm during the cold weather.

This is her cage:

Any ideas?

- another rat

- fleece fabric either made into a hammock or just a piece of it

- any of the available hiding places

- putting a heater in the room that you can turn on for a bit when it's to cold in there

- a nice snuggle in a pocket

I have a little rat in his tank on a heating pad. Mine's in an aquarium with screen top that I have 2/3 covered (can never cover the whole thing or suffocate it.). He was sick, but seems o.k. now with that and treatment. You could do that, but if you put a towel or something over your, it could probably get up there and chew it. Heat rises.......

We give our guys extra bedding in cooler weather so they can insulate their nesting boxes when they want to. Besides their usual Total Comfort bedding, they get paper towels & fleece scraps from their worn-out hammocks-- the girls enjoy taking these from my hands & racing each other to build a cozy nest, & they carry it into their hammocks too.

i made a hammock for my 2 boys but i also put a big square piece of fleece in their cage. when they get cold, which isn't really too cold because they're inside, anyway, when they get cold i see them go under the fleece. the only thing is it might get smelly so you'll have to get 2 pieces so when you wash one they'll have one to snuggle in.
