I really want a dog but my parents won't allow it, and we already have a cat. I would like to have a cuddly pet (I love to cuddle!) that is fun to play with. If possible, you could play games with it...I'd prefer it to be active in the morning on school days. (6-7 ish) and evenings (3-9) or just all day long. So I guess I mean a diurnal pet. Can't be a a ferret (illegal in california) , and probably not a Chinchilla. I'd like it to be happy to see me; I don't like indifference.

Hmmm....So here are some of the top ones I'm thinking of then:
-Rat (everyone is saying they're good)
-Bunny (cute but lots of work; I've also read that they don't like hugs)
-Guinea Pigs (Not mentioned by anyone, but I heard they're cuddly and make cute noises)

Rats are great little companions-- smart, affectionate & interactive. Please keep in mind that they're *much* happier if you get more than 1 (of the same sex).
Our rats are always happy to see us-- even when there's no food involved.

I think you've listed all the cuddly animals that are legal for people to own as pets. If you consider a bird to be cuddly, then you can get a bird. They're very cute and many types of birds happen to be extremely smart. I know that certain types of parrots and cockatiels dance when you play music. Also, you don't want to get a ferret anyway because they make your house stink. In some states it is legal to own a small hedgehog. Though you can't exactly cuddle with it, they are so cute and amusing to watch. In my opinon, though, a cat is the perfect pet. They are independent, low maintenance, and at the same time, extremely loving and never cease to amuse you.

I know you're thinking more of a rodent thing. My top 2 for that would be rat and guinea pig. I have never had rats but have heard very good things about them (Besides the time I got bitten by a rat at the nature center at summer camp.. but it had just had babies so who knows..)
My best friend had a guinea pig. He was a skittish little guy, but if you wanted to watch TV or something you could just get him on your lap and stroke him and he wouldn't go anywhere. I wouldn't imagine a rat doing this, but hey I could be wrong.
Also I have gerbils but I definitely wouldn't recommend them if you want a cuddly pet, they won't stay still for a second!

I'd also like to throw out there a bird like a Cockatiel. I had one and they are very lovey on their owners. If they are used to you enough they will enjoy coming out of their cage and interacting with you.. they can ride around on your shoulders. Mine loved to groom or 'preen' my hair. They are quite a bit more expensive to buy and keep than a rat or guinea pig though!

Good luck on your pet!

Get yourself a rat and i promise you you wont regret it!!
Intelligent (Teach it tricks and watch it solve problems!!)
Adaptable
Interactive
Loving - Run to you when they recognize you coming
Robust (good for cuddles!!)..
Sociable (keep in same sex pairs or groups).
Less aggressive than mice, hamsters and gerbils.
Females are playful and avtive.
Males are less active, but happy to curl up on your lap.
Curious
East to care for
Diverse - Loads of colorurs to choose from
Cute- shiny sleek fur, glossy eyes big round ears (check out dumbo rats!)

Rabbits are hard to hold, and will kick
Mice.. too small and fragile
Hamster.. sleeps all day and nippy

Rats overall are bright, clean and very entertaining pets!! Suitable for first time pets or a lifelong interest.. also go check out what the experts recommend and i bet u its the rat!!
What more reason do u need?!

So misunderstood, yet so fantastic!!

I'd suggest a pair of rats. If you want a pet that likes to cuddle, get male rats - the females are active and hyper, and the males are more laid back. I've only had one female under the age of 2 that would sit still and be cuddled, but the males will happily hang out in your lap and let you pet them.

Go to a pet store and handle a few rats. See if you like them. They're very intelligent, and will be happy to see you - mine go nuts if I start talking to them, climbing around the cage and begging to be let out. They're awake at all different times, and don't mind being woken up for some playtime or a treat (hamsters will bite you if you try that - rats will look at you like you're crazy, then get over it and play for a bit).

Rat is your best bet or certain types of birds - cockatiels can be quite interactive. A rabbit or Guinea pig would be a good choice too. Other exotics are not that interactive with humans - they are not common for a reason.

A rat or a guinea pig would be great!
Rabbits are a LOT more work then they look and can cost a lot, to, food wise. And they need regular cage cleaning. Dwarf rabbits are the smallest breed you can buy. I've never had a dwarf, but the bigger the rabbit, the harder to care for!

I have rats. Male rats love to cuddle and sit and watch TV. Females are more active (better for tricks) You can also litter box train them! So as long as you clean the litter box everyday you wont have to change the shavings AS much and that means it will be less expensive.

Get a bunny, and litter-train it. It won't be super excited to see you because it doesn't know any better, but it's cuddly :)
