It probably won't hurt him if you just accidentally gave him some adult food. As long as his regular diet is a good quality puppy food, he will be ok. Puppy food just has a higher amount of fat (which puppies need to develop), and calories/nutrition. There shouldn't be anything in the adult food that will hurt your puppy.

I am a retired vet tech and have a hobby breeding kennel. The thought that puppies require "puppy" food has been around for a long time. In fact the higher amounts of calories and protein promote rapid bone growth ( especially in big breeds) and it can create problems.
I ask my puppy owners to feed a quality adult food from the start. Any sudden changes in a dogs diet whether its a puppy or an adult can result in some loose stools but that's about all.
If you have a big breed pup I suggest you switch to an adult formula.Giving a chewable vitamin will be helpful.

Probably not a lot except maybe give him a tummy ache.
OK dog food has undergone considerable transformation since my childhood (and I'm not even 50!)
Used to be you gave your dog either canned food or dry food. Period. Dog food was dog food.
Then some of the pet food companies of the time found that puppies had different nutritional needs from adults - duh. AND their size/small tummies would hamper their ability to ingest enough food to meet those needs (and think of the poop!) so they came up with Puppy formula.
Soon after that it was discovered that senior dogs, giant dogs, toy breeds, working/sporting dogs etc. had different nutritional needs. Again, duh.
So go out and buy a bag of puppy dog-food and give the adult food to a friend.
Again, the adult food may be harsher on Chester's tummy - and he may have a bout of diarrhea and may even vomit. But for the most part, he'll be OK in a day or two.

An accidental feeding certainly won't harm them in any way. However, if the food has different ingredients than what the pup is used to eating, it could cause tummy problems, so just be aware of that if you notice diarrhea or anything. But that should clear up on its own. Just keep feeding the puppy food from now on since it has higher protein and fats that puppies need. : )

Well depending on how old your puppy is, if you gave your pup adult food, they might not be able to absorb as much vitamines and nutrients as they would or digest it well if they were given puppy food instead. I have a 6 mon old pup and a 5 yr old dog at my house and I feed them both purina adult food and the pup seems to be normal. He's not weak in particular or having trouble going to the bathroom so I don't really think it's a big deal if you give them adult food as long as they digest it well.

He'll be fine. Puppy food gives pups the extra calories and nutrition they need while they are young and running around. Adult food won't hurt, just not enough calories, but alot of people that is all they feed.

It won't hurt him. Puppy food has more calories and nutrients for growing dogs. Just get him on a good puppy food.

It doesn't hurt them, but puppies need puppy food because it has more fat and nutrients which they need to mature properly. Just make sure you feed it puppy food from now on until he is 1 year old.
