I have plenty of time to devote to my husky after 4:00p.m. But she seems to be lonely while i'm gone. My neighber says she will just lay on the living room floor most of the time i'm gone. Should I adopt anoter dog to keep her company? She is used to living with two other dogs. I just moved out of my parents house. They have two dogs. I can afford food and vet care for another dog. That would not be a problem. I just don't want two lonely dogs on my hands. This was a suggestion from my neighber. She comes over to let my husky out to do her business at 12 noon.

Wow, I wish I could choose two best answers.

Pebblespro- Thank you, I never thought about doggie day care, I'll check into it.

WM/ll- Funny thing is, I already take her on two walks a day, I didn't think about her just being tired.

Thank both of you, and everyone who left a asnwer.

WE've always found dogs work better in pairs if you can afford the time and expense.

If you're going to be leaving the dog/dogs alone for most of the day, you're best off just having one dog. It's true that two dogs will entertain each other - but they'll do that by tearing up your furniture, yard, drywall, etc.

Huskies are a very active breed, but that means they take a lot of downtime too. Try taking your dog for a walk before work, then again after work - even better if you jog or run, so your dog is getting some good exercise. If she's getting enough stimulation elsewhere, she'll be perfectly happy to lie around the rest of the day!

Well husky's are naturally pack animals... They love social attention much like any other dog... My friend has a husky that suffers from anxiety and if they leave the dog alone he will destroy the house.. So, they have doggie daycare.. They either drop him off or a bus picks him up and he goes to spend the day with other dogs.. It cost about $10 a day ! He also has playdates at "grandma's"... So, he's occupied much of his time while the family is gone/working... If you don't want to get another dog. It's a different option...

Huskies are pack animals and generally do well with another dog around to play with or just keep them company. My two huskies don't really play with each other, but they do seem to enjoy having the other one there to pal around with.

If you can afford another dog, I would seriously consider getting one. There are plenty of homeless dogs out there that need a responsible family.

Or, if you're not sure whether you want another dog full time, consider becoming a foster home for your local shelter or rescue. That way you're saving a life and giving your dog some company.

Im not a vet. But we tend to forget that dogs are pack animals they need to be in a social environment. Most people when they get home form work do there on thing and take there dog out to pee real quick and then dont pay much atention to them the rest of the day and that isnt good they need social interaction. Epsecially huskies that was prolly one breed you shouldnt have gotten if you planned to be on your own in a apartmet huskies need to be heavley exerceised. more then alot of other breeds. I would recommend you spend more time with your dog find a dog park for him to socalize at. It you know you will be able to have a geniune amount of time and effort into two dogs then i would but if he is getting the atention he needs he might not need another animal

Maybe you should first try leaving the tv on or radio on. I have a dog that stays in the house while i am at work, and I do leave the tv on. We have see her watching it all the time when we are home. lol. I also bought her some dog toys and she took some of the baby's toys. ( something about the ones that rattle that she loves so much.) If you still dont feel it's enough for her, then get her a pal. Good Luck

Always give a new dog time to bond properly with you before taking in another one. Not saying it is a bad idea but wait another month or so. Yes it would need to be another adult dog and take your time to make sure it is one that gets along with Bailey. 8 hours is a long time to leave them anyway, and you would be better off getting in a dog walker half way through the day.

well she might be , because she grew up with two other dogs and now she might be missing them , my dog just lays around when she is alone at home but she is not depressed or anything like that they heave nothing to do when alone so they sleep . It is up to you on what to do maybe you can bring one of your other dogs from your parents just to see what will happen and go from there .

Yes but an adult dog. If you get a puppy you'll have keep them apart for a while cause puppies can get sick from being around adult dogs.
