I like knowing my dog's birthdays. I don't throw a party, but I give them some doggy icecream that I get from Publix (made especially for dogs) to celebrate.
I spoil my dogs but they still listen to me because they are well-trained.

Dogs could care less about having a party with other dogs. They are animals. And while it's nice to know when you pet was born it really is not an important item to know. What is important is that you make them feel apart of your family (pack) and treat them well.

If you feel like throwing a party have one.... but just realize you are having it for human sentiment. Not because the dog cares about parties!

I watched a documentary where it clearly showed that the happiest dogs are ones who know their place in the "family pack". Dogs don't understand birthday parties, but they do understand a doggie treat for good behaviour and a fun play in the park and a companionable evening sat in the living room together. Dogs are pets, and as pack animals, they are happiest when life replicates their nature as close as possible.

People have different thoughts on this. I know when my dog's birthday is and I treat her like she is my little girl. Sometimes my husband thinks I am nuts because she gets so much attention...but I see him secretly doing it too.
The fact is that if someone feels the way your boss does, unfortunately there is not much you can do to sway their opinion.

We all don't have the luxury of knowing when our dogs were born- my baby and I will celebrate 'adoption day'- he was approx 1 year old at the time- so close enough for me. I'll probably do something small special for him that day- but probably not a 'party'.

It depends on why he has the dog. Some people only have dogs for Breeding, Show or for Security and those dogs are usually kept as such.

But then you have people like myself LOL My dogs are my furbabies and are treated as such they are spoiled rotten. They all have birthdays but a party....no that is too for for me.

for many dogs are just pack animals or some such nonsense...

my pets have always been part of the family. everyone has a different viewpoint, i guess!

take care.

He feels as he does and you as you do. It's all about how we were raised to view the world around us and treat animals who are basically the same as a chair except they one day die. You're unlikely to convince him.
