I put a frozen pretzel on a plastic microwave safe dish on top of a paper towel. Set it on high for 1 minute, and came back before the minute and the paper towel was on fire inside the oven. Ive used them in the microwave a zillion times and its never happened. What happened???

Hi. I was going to have the Kids and Teens together in my family a New Year's Eve Party since they can't go with adults in our family.

Kids:
6 year old nephew
9 year old niece
11 year old nephew

Teens:
16 year old daughter
Her two friends who are both 16(girls)

And I wanted to know if Walmart already has their New Year's supplies out yet or is it too early?
Also, What kinds of crafts or food can the children make?

I can't have them playing games or doing jumping kind of like activites because, my oldest daughter is kind of sick and is recovering(I have a hint she may come down for the party)
I don't want them to be bored or anything so I'm going to let them Make New Years Crafts and Watch Movies. I was thinking about Nachos and, is it all right for the kids to have egg nog or juice.

And What kinds of Treats would be great for them?

When I pre-heat the oven, it reaches the desired temperature in around 20 minutes. I wait a few minutes to check that it's stable. But when I put in the items I need to bake, the temperature drops down by about 50 degrees. Is that normal? How do I make sure it doesn't happen? Do I crank up the temperature? Thanks.
