Hi. I was going to have the Kids and Teens together in my family a New Year's Eve Party since they can't go with adults in our family.

Kids:
6 year old nephew
9 year old niece
11 year old nephew

Teens:
16 year old daughter
Her two friends who are both 16(girls)

And I wanted to know if Walmart already has their New Year's supplies out yet or is it too early?
Also, What kinds of crafts or food can the children make?

I can't have them playing games or doing jumping kind of like activites because, my oldest daughter is kind of sick and is recovering(I have a hint she may come down for the party)
I don't want them to be bored or anything so I'm going to let them Make New Years Crafts and Watch Movies. I was thinking about Nachos and, is it all right for the kids to have egg nog or juice.

And What kinds of Treats would be great for them?

You are a brave soul to host a New Year's eve party for 6 kids!!

I like your idea for nacho's...I might take it a step further and say put out the ingredients in seperate bowls, and have some taco shells, flour tortillas and chips..and call it a Taco Bar or Buffet. Let them assemble their own taco or burrito or nachos.

Egg Nog (unspiked, of course) is fine for kids if it is the "store bought" kind, since it is pasturized. It may be a bit rich in taste for kids. If the parents don't object...it's fun to get sparkling grape juice and let the kids have a toast in pretty glasses at midnight.

Give every one a safety pin or clothes pin to clip on their clothes, and pick the most annoying thing your groups says....."like" comes to mind...when someone says the chosen word or phrase, the first one to catch them get's their pin. If you pick something the kids say all the time...the pins will trade all night...whoever has the most pins at Midnight gets a small prize. (even a $5 or $10 gift card to walmart would be great for any of those ages)

Baking and decorating sugar cookies would be a quiet activity that all might enjoy...get several jars of sprinkles and cans of frosting. (easy to do, and it would take a while)

If you want something craftier.... let them make bulletin boards. Get a cork board for each child
assorted fabric remnants large enough to cover each board
rolls of flat ribbon
thumb tacks and push pins.(assorted colors)

Cover board with fabric. Use flat thumbtacks to hold it around edges. Make a "plaid" design with the ribbon and secure it with more thumb tacks. Add a few push pins for attaching momentos when they get home. Paint pens can make them more personalized if desired.

I hope some of these ideas appeal to you.
Happy New Year!

walmart here already has their new years stuff out. in fact, it was out less than a week after they started putting christmas stuff out full force. a good snack for newyears is, in my opinion, rice crispie squares. easy and fun to make, as well as quite tasty!! and since it's new years, if you want to serve egg nog, why not try adding a little sprite or 7-up to it? makes it a little more festive.

not a lot of people like those.
especially if most of them are over the age of 10.

yeah, just make a lot of nachos and stuff.
and comedy movies.
everyone loves those.

Set boundaries. Prevention is the key. Before anyone actually lands on your doorstep, let them know how long you're willing to have them stay in your home. Decide as a family and then be clear and direct in your communication. You might say "Sure, we'd love to see you. We're available tomorrow until 6 p.m." Or, if it's an overnight guest, say "Yes, please come and stay with us, we'd love to have you for two days." That way, everyone knows the parameters. 2Appreciate your guests when they are behaving well. If they help with the dishes or offer to watch your kids, thank them. Successful relationships have a 5 to 1 ratio of appreciations to criticisms and yes, that includes your relationship with your mother-in-law! She might be a beast, but the more you can find to appreciate about her, the easier it will be for you to be in the same room together. 3Hold your ground. It's so easy once someone is actually planted on your couch for them to stay longer than you planned. If they try to stay longer than you agreed, kindly let them know it's time to go. You might say "It's been a great visit and our time together is already up. Thanks so much for being a great guest and keeping to our schedule. See you next year." 4Expect huffy displays of "Who do you think you are!" Lots of people expect others to forego their own wishes to make them happy. But only you can create your own happiness and you must. People who want to push the boundaries of others often get upset and create drama. In this way, they feel they have power in their lives. By creating clear boundaries and sticking to them, you are demonstrating real power, a skill they may not have, which can feel threatening to them. They may feel hurt or they may feel scared. Let them have their feelings without trying to rescue them. 5Choose to honor yourself and your family for creating exactly what you all wanted. Find a way to celebrate after the guest has gone. Share with each other the things that felt hard or scary and those that were wonderful and empowering.
