I think my video card is okay and my RAM and great. But do I need a better processor then 4000+? Also I am on a tight budget and am wondering if it is a good idea to spend $30 extra to upgrade to Vista Home Premium?

I have a stick of ram that I pulled from a computer with a fried motherboard. This stick of ram says "512mb, DDR, 333.

Will this be compatible with a Dell Deminision 2400, a computer that takes PC2700?

We just got cable internet and when i try and use the internet on my desktop, it wont work, but if we unplug the internet and plug it into our laptop it works. what could be the reason that the internet wont work on the desktop but will on the laptop and is there anything i can do to fix it? i tried calling compaq and they told me it would be 60 dollars to fix over the phone. and if they cant fix it within 3 days im out of luck. any suggestions??

Why does my computer CPU show lower speed in system properties?
I have an Intel P4 2.6 GHz, but in system properties it shows 2.6 GHz and under that it says 1.89 GHz. What's the problem?

I'm building a budget gaming system. Aiming for around $500. Going with e6750 2.66 ghz c2d, cheap case, 2 gigs of ram, etc. But I noticed I can get a good full sized mobo for $100 that have 800 mhz speed ram, but there are also cheaper micro atx mobos that have 667 mhz ram. Should I pay more for the mobo with the faster ram? I'm not building a high end rig I just want to play the classic games like half life and the stuff I've missed out on because I have a mac. Maybe in the future I will upgrade it to play crysis and stuff like that. What do you think?

My parents are getting a new desktop. They left it to me to find out the best deal but at the same time the best quality. So, I am looking for something no more than $1500. I just need it for basic uses. (my parents are 50 years old). Does anyone have any suggestions in brand name to go with. I want something that will last long, easy to use, good graphics, etc. Please feel free to post your opinions. Thanks.

My current system is going on 8 years and running Windows 98. I bought it from Dell using an e-check (they deduct the money directly from a checking account). Dell no longer has this policy and requires a CREDIT CARD, which I DO NOT HAVE. A local man that runs a computer store said he'd build me a system with Windows XP as he did not think Windows Vista was a good OS. Then someone else told me this was a bad idea. This guy might go out of business and if I have a problem with his computer, there will be no one that can or will want to repair a custom computer. All the systems in places like CompUSA, Best Buy and Circuit City all have Vista installed and no software. Please help me decide what to do. Thanks.

I havent got alot to spend but i really need a a new pc as mine is quite knackered. I just want it for basic stuff. I have a Dell Dimension 4600, and I was wondering how you can disable the ethernet on the computer, preventing any OS from reading the Ethernet address?

I tried disabling "Network Interface Controller" in its F2 Setup at Startup, but to no avail. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

I have an Emachines computer I bought from Best Buy 3 - 4 years ago and it has run great but recently it has been giving me grie, it sounds like its failing and I have taken it in twice to Best Buy and their diagnosics say nothing is wrong with it. It has been repaired 3 times now and the fourth time its considered a lemon and they give you a replacement of equal or greater prie than what we paid for it. Anyways, has anyone ever gotten a replacement computer from Best Buy from their no lemon policy and is there anything I can do to wear out my hard drive so their diagnostics know its failing and they dont know I tampered with it? The computer guys removed the hard drive from an old system. I want to install it in my new computer. Is it as easy as just plugging it in...or should I have the nerds do it for me? The old drive used Windows XP but the new computer has Vista.

My parents are running windows 98. they turn on the computer and get an error message that states c drive is probably about to fail. it gives an option to fix but their cursor has disappeared. they have tried restarting and got the same results repeatedly. Any ideas?

I'm going to build a pc and i was going to get intel core 2 duo E6750 2.66 ghz processor. Then I looked at AMD out of curiousity and saw the dual core amd 64 x2 6000+ 3.0 ghz for $30 cheaper!!! The mobos for amd processor look like they are cheaper as well. Will Amd give me more bang for my buck? I'm looking to build a gaming pc in the $500 range. How much fast are the intels?
