www.ocuk.co.uk

there have all the parts you could need and you can get advise in the forums for your build.

i advise to look at what parts your gonna need and then go price hunting and buy all the parts. i reccomend you cover your pc under your house contents insurance to protect your investment.

If you want a book then try the Building a PC for Dummies, their guides are pretty good.

You can also try Googling something along the lines of "beginners guide building a pc" and see what comes up.

Check out these guides:

It is important to follow the motherboard manual. You can actually test your build halfway through. Even without the hard drive, CD drive and FDD, a bare setup should be able to beep once, display POST and open BIOS menu.

email me at cgbcomputers@yahoo.co.uk with the spec you want and i'll start off by talking you through what parts are compatible as some aren't and you don't want to waste cash.

i've built around 1500 machines for a large company that i work for so i know what i'm talking about. a quick guide probably won't be as useful or informative plus if you get stuck when you're building it i can talk you through problem solving and fault detection.
