The Intel E6750 is one fast CPU, better than the AMD x2 6000+ in just about every way. If the price difference is only $30, I'd go with the E6750. I'd consider that well worth it.

The reason you cannot use either processor on a single motherboard is the pins on the outside each processor. If you're buying an entire computer, you get to choose between the two, because both processors need a compatible motherboard. If you own a computer with an Intel chip inside it, you cannot use the same motherboard for an AMD chip. You will have to replace the motherboard along with the processor. This can be a problem as motherboards are quite expensive, therefore some users tend to stick to one brand. If clocking speed was still a sole criteria for superiority (as it used to be in the old days), Intel would win hands down. But that's not the case anymore. Intel processors give you a higher clocking, which means they have a higher frequency of work done per second. That's just how it is built- Intel divides the total work down to the smallest possible divisions for simplicity and goes through it a high frequency. AMD, on the other hand, goes through data at a slower rate, but processes a lot more data per cycle. In the end, the amount of data processed by the AMD can be quite significant. If you compare versions with the same ratings, you'll find that Intel beats AMD in most areas when it comes to performance. But, ever since AMD got hold of ATI, the AMD processor has a much higher compatibility with any ATI graphics cards. AMD started reworking their strategy at that time and integrated both systems quite well. So, if you're a gamer and want to buy an ATI graphics card, you'd be better off with an AMD processor.

The Core 2 Duo E6750 is signficantly faster than the X2 6000+. Basicly everything in the Core 2 Duo lineup is faster than their AMD counterparts, clockspeed wise and price wise.
There's a bunch of benchmarks comparing these 2 processors as well as a few others so you can make your own decision.

E6750 easily beats the X2 6000+:

If you have a tight budget, consider the E4500 or the AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition. Then just overclock them to 3.0 Ghz.

For the two processors you listed, the AMD has better speed. Intel 2.66 Core 2 Dual is not faster than this AMD.

well this is somewhat factorial lol, well amd is more of a gaming processor so if you are a gamer or planning on becoming a gamer then by all means go with the amd!!1 and otherwise if you are going to use the comp for just regular uses then get intel they are pretty much perfect so all in all gamer amd non gamer intel that is my opinion. So in your case go with amd athlon processor.

The differences are in the motherboards...the chipsets are different and the frontside buses speeds are different...go to a site like "Tom's Hardware" to see more on this topic....the Intel's have higher L2 and L1 cache levels too...(high speed memory)
