either your Ethernet card driver is not installed or its defective. you can check to see if the driver is installed by going to control panel -> click on add hardware -> click next -> select I have already connected the hardware. there should be a list and if you see any yellow question marks then you will need to install the drivers.

you can download the drivers here

I think you should call the cable company and ask then how to hook it up to your computer. You might just be hooking something up wrong. I would say your computer should be ready to go as long as there is the area in back of it where you can hook in what looks like a phone jack but it maybe bigger. Some computers have 2 and only one of them is the right one to use to hook up for the Internet. So if you tried it in one and it did not work try it in the other one and see if that works, give it a minute so it can establish a connection. Then try it if that does not work call the cable company and ask for help they should not charge you for help over the phone since you are your ISP provider. Good luck! =)

Is your network card disabled? Check it in the device manager. If you don't see it go into bios(usually "delete" upon startup) and enable it. If you've never used your ethernet port before you may have to install its drivers off the motherboard CD.Try plugging the modem into your tower when the tower is turned off then turn it on. If you still can't connect leave your puter on and the modem plugged into the tower and power-cycle the modem by unplugging the power adaptor cord for about 15 seconds then plugging it back in. If that doesn't work call your ISP. They should walk you thru it for free.

Mine works like this, I easily have a Motorola modem related to a instant-G Linksys modem and whilst ever i cant connect with the information superhighway, I try this, initiate>connect with> teach all Connections, interior of reach area Connection (or despite you have)>Disable. Then press the reset button on my Linksys, and wait 10 sec. yet in the ten seconds at as quickly as enable interior of reach area Connection or despite you have merely via clicking it and your achieved. If this does not artwork for you, attempt buying the "80 conductor cable" and the ethernet adapter at your interior of reach electronics save.
