I have a Dell Dimension 4600, and I was wondering how you can disable the ethernet on the computer, preventing any OS from reading the Ethernet address?

I tried disabling "Network Interface Controller" in its F2 Setup at Startup, but to no avail. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

Edit:
What I mean is disabling the ethernet _completely_, as if it were removed from the computer and without using an OS to configure that because I need to boot from a DVD and I cannot let it access the Ethernet.

Not sure you are asking the right question but assuming you want to truly disable an ethernet device (as in you DONT want to use it to connect to the internet because you have a better device installed for example) then goto Device Manager... Right click My Computer and choose properties. Click tab called Hardware>Click device manager>Click the - minus symbol next to Network adaptors>right click the device you want disabled and choose uninstall. To get it back (if you should need to) right click any device in Device Manager and choose scan for hardware changes.

Control Panel, Network Connections, highlight the network connection you wish to disable and on the left side click "Disable this network device".
