My parents are getting a new desktop. They left it to me to find out the best deal but at the same time the best quality. So, I am looking for something no more than $1500. I just need it for basic uses. (my parents are 50 years old). Does anyone have any suggestions in brand name to go with. I want something that will last long, easy to use, good graphics, etc. Please feel free to post your opinions. Thanks.

I don't know why the previous person did not like Gateway, but Gateway machines work well for me. I had a Gateway before Dell became big, and after Dell became big, I still bought another gateway because Dell was too big, and services start lacking.

Dell services might have improved, but I would still avoid them due to their sheer size and dizzying array of models. HP used to have lousy machines, but their reputation has started to climb. HP have more dizzying array of models. I would recommend you to try Gateway since it's still reputable and still largely focus on home customers.

Gateway has less section of models and configurations, but the prices are still comparable with OEM's like Dell & HP. If you don't mind Macs, you can also get a slick looking Mac. Though, eMachine, as a branch of Gateway, are cheap models. Definitely avoid these if you plan to spend more than $1,000.

Any desktop machines that promises high speed with celeron processor as CPU. Celeron processor has less cache and it's not comparable to similiar pentium 4 processor or other AMD processor's performance. Hope this helps. If you have futhur questions, you can try to email me.

I have had great luck with HP's. I have two at home and they are great and my laptop is an HP.

I use DELL at work with no problems either, but personally I prefer HP. I cannot say bad things about Dell though.

Avoid eMachine and Gateway.

I think you get more stuff for your money with HP than with Dell, but both should be good reliable macines.

Hope this helps you.

For me, Dell is the best value for the money. Easy customization, endless options, and various graphics configurations available, depending on what you need.
