The best computer is one you build yourself. It's also the cheapest component wise.

If you order all of the parts and assemble it yourself you will have a better computer than any you can buy.........for a reasonable price that is. Also it's a lot of fun to do and it's not as complicated as people think.
I'm saying this if you're a gamer or plan on playing computer games. You can buy all of the parts from some place like NEWEGG.COM. They have real good prices and usually you can get combo deals on a lot of the parts you will need. If you decide to build it yourself you can get detailed instructions from the net through the search engines that are really detailed. You could build a super good gaming rig for under 600.00 with a 22" widescreen monitor, very good video card, harddrive, DVD burner/player, 2gig's memory, nice case, and I would suggest using Windows XP Pro.. If you build a gaming rig it will do everything else faster. I built my first computer 6 years ago and since then I have built about 30-35 for friends and family. The only tools you need are a phillips head screwdriver and a pair of small needle nose pliers.

But if all you do is brouse the internet and do e-mail Sams Club has some good deals. I saw several for under 500.00 with 19" lcd monitors a few days ago that would do fine for everyday use.
