im getting a new computer for christmas it has 1gb of ram and a amd 64 bit processor and i dont what operating system to get is vista stable enough yet is xp still the best or what shoulds i geti appreciate any help u can give, thnx in advance

I would recommend you getting Windows XP because Vista has a lot of incompatibilities with Softwares and Games out there in the market. It will need at least another year for Vista to be really stable.

I'd go for one from the Vista stable - it's got to be better & more cost effective in the long run - Microsoft no longer support some of their older operating systems & it's a fair guess that they will support Vista for a lot longer than XP.

Other than that there is always Linux - not as user friendly but more & more people are using it.

Don't go for Vista, it is new and Microsoft is planning to release a SP1 for it.

Xp is safer and better XP Service Pack 2. Don't go for SP3 unless you plan to buy a Genuine Microsoft.

your new PC wont run vista well so stick with xp.

or get some flavour of linux if you like to fiddle around with the os and like to reinstall os.

Go with Windows XP. WindowsVista still has a lot of bugs in it.

honestly, get a mac....theyre way wickeder....i'd say iMac would do it....it has everything you are lookin for....plus ull get run leopard.....the best os in the world.....cheers
