That's typical of a virus attack. Virus shuts down your PC first so that when you restart, it will load ahead of your anti-virus. It will disable anti-virus then proceed with further attacking your PC. Your PC now probably has a significant collection of virus.

you could have a virus, or it could be overheating.

try downloading 3 things from www.download.com
avg free antivirus
adaware
spybot search & destroy.
install, update, scan, clean. if you still have problems take it to a technician.
