So this morning for the life of me my computer would not boot. The computer would power on, but the bios would fail to post. I tried changing the bios jumper settings which did not work. As a last resort I started unplugging things then booting, to no avail, then plugging things back in. Finally, I took out 1 stick of ram and the computer was able to boot! I figured the stick I had removed was the cuplrit, but just to make sure I plugged it back in, and removed the "good one". The computer booted again fine. I plugged them both in and as I write this question the computer seems to be working fine again.

Can anyone explain to me what is going on? Is it possible, I have a power supply problem?

Ageing PC finally gave up the ghost yesterday with too many problems to make it worthwhile to bring back to life. Brand new kit arriving shortly. Made regular back up on old PC from hard drive to external hard drive. As luck would have it, there is some data I inputted just before it went down so wish to retrieve it. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive as such, just stuck in a machine that is absolutely kaput. Any ideas?

Ok, i recently built a new computer, and decided i would give my old computer to my sister. Now, I am pretty handy when it comes to computers, but I am stuck. Somehow, she managed to get various pieces of junk in the tower itself. I had wiped the system previously, and now there is no OS on it. Heres the issue: The cd rom drive will recieve no power when it is plugged into the mobo. Its gets power when its unplugged, but none when it is. How can i get an OS on the computer without the cd rom drive? Thanks

alright, so i have a just-over 1-year-old computer which is running an AMD Sempron 3100+ processor which clocks at just over 1.8 Ghz. i was just wondering how much longer i can expect to be able to keep up with somewhat above-average multimedia computing. right now i am actually video and audio editing on it. x] i know, right? serious video and audio editing on a sempron? haha, but i'm something called a student. therefore, student=poor. (actually, the computer was a gift last christmas & i'm very greatful)

the thing is, i am going to college in a year and was planning on buying a laptop. i am wondering: 1... if the computer i have now will do me well for the next few years (in which case i won't be so picky about the laptop's power) and 2... whether or not a laptop with a less-than-2 Ghz processor would be sufficient for my needs. there is actually a used laptop for $300 with nice specs, but it is 1.4 Ghz (if i want to just buy it now, is that acceptable?)

thanks! =]
