I have had several e-machines and they seemed to outlast other brands. Their support was good after a wait to talk to them and once my power supply went out and they overnighted a new one to me. I will buy another one.

eMachines are actually fairly decent computers from what I've heard. I would definately suggest an eMachine over a HP or Compaq.
eMachines will obviously cut corners to keep the cost down, and like all cheaper brands, they are more likely to have hardware failure. A good warranty would be a smart idea. Another thing to know is that cheaper systems often are more difficult to upgrade. It is a buy, use, toss system. Don't think that you will get 5 years of out of it. It'll probably last 2 to 3 pretty decently. Excluding lemons of course.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, don't mind buying a new computer in a couple years, and get a good warranty, you should be ok.

I've never had an emachine but a friends e-machine is sitting in my storage room. It's either the Mobo or the CPU that crapped out after only 2 years of light use. Seems hit or miss with these, they probably have some issues resolved but I would find out the model number you intend to buy, then search the net for possible problems that are common with that model.
When my friends e-machine crapped out and I diagnosed the motherboard, I did a search on the net and found it a common problem with that model due to a bad manufacturer that e-machines chose.
If your lazy, just find out the model, come back here and ask what problems it will have, someone will look it up for you :)

Do not buy an EMachine, a friend of mine bought one and the computer slowed down after a couple weeks and there was perfect virus protection on it. The computer had to be completely reformatted. My advice buy a very good priced HP. If you were ever thinking of a laptop, they have great rebates and deals.

Don't buy E-machine, I had mine for a little over a year and had to get it wiped out and re-built 3 times. I now have an HP and don't have any problems with it.
