You don't need to spend all the money on the 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo, the 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo will be good. It will give you at least a 50% gain in most games, so despite what other people are saying, it would definately be a worthy upgrade for gaming purposes.

Really depends on the game. The software (game) must be able to use the dual-core to get any benefit. Most programs can only use one cpu at a time.

Unless you have a lot of programs running while you're gaming, you probably won't notice much.

Unless you have an old computer with a lot of upgrades needed, I would stay put.

Check what the game really needs to run well.

id go with core 2 duo. P4 is dieing, and applications are jumping off to dual core support.

I recommend you to buy a new one and AMD Athlon package will best suit your needs as a heavy gamer. It has better graphics that P4. Enjoy gaming :-)

I think p4 itself can give good performance.. If you are going to buy new processor I recommend you AMD, because it is most suited for graphics..

if you want the latest processor then that is core 2 duo
but normally gaming depend more on graphic cards and memory ........ actually your current processor is good already...you just need to upgrade your graphic cards and memory only.......memory i think 512mb ram and above is enough if you using windows xp......
