I have been burning for some time with this burner & this media, when out of the blue ( after burning 2 or 3 discs that day) the dvd drive is now listing all of the blank dvd-r media that I have inserted into it as full. The media is not full & i have in fact tried 3 different brands of media and they are all the same.
I have removed the burner and re installed , no help , and as i said i have been burning with this burner for some time so i know that it works & it works with the exact media i am trying to use.
The problem is , is that for some reason this burner or puter now sees this media as full.
I have various software for burning dvd's that have all worked in the past , now they show media as full when in reality it is not!!!
I do not think it is a problem with the drive, media,or burning software! Firmware was working fine & no changes were made so it can not be this ( unless it is corrupted somehow).
Is there perhaps a setting that needs to be reconfigured? suggestions?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and its great. The security is much better than XP, I love the new Windows Aero 3D Flip where you can see all the programs that are open in 3d by pressing start-tab.

Please tell me if you see anything that doesn't look right, or an item that isn't exactly the best quality. I basically want to have a blazing fast (good at multi-tasking) new computer. Also, I'd like it to be able to run most any recent game at high quality with no troubles. In other words, I'm tired of playing Starcraft because it's the only thing that runs.

I'm getting this from www.buyxg.com because their price point is very good for what I'm looking to get.

I'll probably have to stretch this out on a couple added details, so patience.

There must be similar questions to this floating around, but perhaps not my exact situation, so here goes. I am currently running 32-bit XP, and I have just bought and received 64-bit Vista Ultimate. My computer is more than compatible with it. i have been informed however that you cannot upgrade from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista, but instead have to do a clean installation. Does this mean I have to format my drive first (assuming that I can't be bothered with having multiple partitions for different things)? I have a backup of everything in case something goes wrong, and I have copies of things ready to go to Vista, but I need to know if a reformat is first required? I suppose even if it wasn't, it'd still make for a cleaner and less buggy transition, wouldn't it?

Every now and then (not every day) when I turn on and boot up my HP PC with XP, I get this hourglass with blue lines at each end, and it turns every few seconds. The start up icons never show up in the tray, and the clock doesnt show correct time. Its very annoying, and usually after 10 minutes, I have to shut down and reboot. This happens intermittently ONLY on startup.
What is this hourglass with blue lines, why is it showing up, and what can I do to stop it showing up?
Thanks

It's a Windows XP SP2 system, and it either switches itself off just after the BIOS self test beep, or just after Windows loads up. It seems to do this the first couple of times the PC is switched on for the day.

Any ideas why?

I'm building a computer and want to buy a nice quality motherboard under $300, any suggestions?

2007-02-07 17:24:38 · 5 answers · asked by Anonymous

My friend's computer shut off one night and and wouldn't come back on. I looked at it and tested all the parts on my computer. I found out the problem was the motherboard. All the other parts were fine. Instead of buying a new one she was thinking about buying whole new computer. She still wanted all the music, movies, ect on her old hard drive so I was planning on extracting the files she wanted and putting them on disk. I installed her hard drive on my computer as the slave drive. Everything seems to be working fine except I cannot find all her music, picture and video files. All her program and program files are still on there but all other files are missing.

Anyone know what may be causing this? Can I just not read them or has something happened that caused them to all be deleted? Both hard drives have windows xp installed on them and both hard drives are set to their proper jumper settings. Any insight or advice is welcome. Thank you

My Icon's on my computer such as Explorer, MySpace IM, Messenger Live, as well as a few other icon's keep changing themselves into different icon's on my desktop. What causes this? It's been happening often, and this is the first time that has happend. I did a virus scan (Inwhich I'm pretty sure it isn't a virus) an Ad-Aware scan, and a defragment, and still, the icon's change when they please.

I recently put in a new nvidia 7300 GT video card, and it worked fine for a week, but then I began to get this error.
Does anyone know what this is about?
