I have been burning for some time with this burner & this media, when out of the blue ( after burning 2 or 3 discs that day) the dvd drive is now listing all of the blank dvd-r media that I have inserted into it as full. The media is not full & i have in fact tried 3 different brands of media and they are all the same.
I have removed the burner and re installed , no help , and as i said i have been burning with this burner for some time so i know that it works & it works with the exact media i am trying to use.
The problem is , is that for some reason this burner or puter now sees this media as full.
I have various software for burning dvd's that have all worked in the past , now they show media as full when in reality it is not!!!
I do not think it is a problem with the drive, media,or burning software! Firmware was working fine & no changes were made so it can not be this ( unless it is corrupted somehow).
Is there perhaps a setting that needs to be reconfigured? suggestions?

just to add , dvd-r is the format that this drive has used successifuly for some time , so it is not the media type. Also the drive is not dead , though i appreciate the links to get a deal , may still use them.
As an update , am currently burning a disc with the drive , won't know if it worked for a while, but one point of interest in this problem ( at least for me) is that although when doing the properties of the drive in win xp it says that the media is full , however when i just went to burn this disc the burning software recognized that the media was blanc , so is this a bug in win xp?

3rd & final edit:
win xp still showing that media is full.
some software must be getting this setting from win xp & also lists media as full
Just burnt a disc (dvd-r)with avs video converter and the drive worked fine & the disc burnt fine as well.
So: the drive works , the media works , the firmware works one of umpteen pieces of software works. Win xp is giving a false reading of the media & some software / burning / converting programs are still seeing the media as full... definately a software / setting glitch! any suggestions on where to look?
thnx in advance!
