I want to reformat, do I need to take out my upgraded video card first? What about my extra RAM?

OK, I reformatted and got away with leaving my Gforce video card inside. Once I reformatted, I went and disabled the computer integrated video card (I know, its a chip inside not a card). Then I rebooted and added the upgraded video card drive and rebooted. Then i went to check that my drive was recognized in the display adaptor then I right clicked it, for the update drive, and got it updated with the microsoft name along side it now.

Also, before you reformat, save to disc all the programs you use for setting up. You know how you downloaded say a driver for your webcam and then you had to run it. Well, save the download to a disk. Then when you reformat it is easier and faster to get things running. Plus you will not forget to load certain applications. When you do a recovery, make sure you load your spyware first. That is if you have the good stuff like Norton's. Usually if you buy the anti virus program it will stay in the backgrond preventing ing viruses from getting on. The other free spyware stuff, takes the virus off after you are infected. Anyway, load all the stuff up befrore you get on the internet. Then when you get on, load the windows updates first. and that is about it.

Also, you do not need to take out card or extra RAM you have added. If you have problems try the RESTORE feature first. That is like a time machine, to take you to a point before you loaded the program with the malware on it.

All reformatting does is erase the disk being reformatted. You do not need to do any hardware changes in order to reformat. You will need to have all the information your computer requires available on other disks.

If the disk you are reformatting does not contain the operating system, you won't notice anything (beyond the loss of all the data you had on that disk). If it does include the operation system you will need an install or restore disk for the operation system. You will also need install programs for your firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs so you can install them BEFORE you connect back to the Internet. You will speed the process if you have drivers for all your upgrades available on disk but once your computer is protected you can also download these.

no need for u to do that. More ram will make ur reformating process even faster. some of the vendor will and ram to their customer computer to speed up the formatting process. Regarding ur video card u may leave it. Do ur formatting and install back all the driver and YES it's like a brand new computer again

Nope...you don't have to change anything. Windows will automatically detect your new video card (although it may ask for the driver so have the CD handy).
