You computer is going into thermal shutdown to protect the system components, because the fan isn't working. You will need to replace the fan that is failed.

It is an easy and cheap fix for a tech saavy individual, or you could bring it to geek squad for the price of your first born.

this is something you can do very esily to replace the fan. it is located at the top of the motherboard and has a thick heatsink under it. the fan is only like a 2"X2" square. first remove the right side tower cover and the top cover. looking at the back of the tower determines left from right. now remove the power cord from the back of the system, then remove the 4 screws that hold the power supply in. lift the power supply so that it is moved toward the front of the tower and you can get to the fan with a screwdriver. unplug the fan from the board. follow the wire from the fan to the plug. gently pull it out. next, there are 4 small screws that will hold it in, you'll need a phillips screwdriver for this. do the reverse to install the fan. then you are done. the thermal shut down can also be caused by the power supply fan not working also.. the supply would then have to be replaced in this situation.

The fan has to run or the CPU can literly Fry in SECOND's
Destroying your computer
Take it to a repair shop and tell them to put a new fan On
IF they say half the board is bad or charge you 600 Dollars
LEAVE THEM they are NOT legit

They Shouldn't charge more then 50-60 Dollars for the Repair
My son fix's computers Now :)
AND NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER TAKE IT TO GEEKSQUAD
I TOOK SOME ''Bait'' Old Computer

I Disconnected the IDE Cable (the Peice that connects it to the hard drive''

They Said I needed a new power supply i then popped the case plugged it in and turned it on
You might as well have a ****** Three year old working on it
I AM warning YOU do not Ever Ever Ever Take it To Geek Squad
Those So called experts are Very Stupid at Computers

it seems like the system Fan (fan on the Processor) is either not secure with the power connection or it might have gone bad, dont try to turn on the system as it might cause serious failures to your system processor if you can open the system tower and look inside for the power connection on the fan that it might be fixed or you can take it to a local technician to get it fixed, if the system is still under warranty call your system manufacturer.

Well, take the side off your computer.... so you can see the fan(s) and then try to boot with the case off - you should be able to see the fan that doesn't start running. They're fairly inexpensive and easy to pull out and plug in a new one.

sounds like it is full of dirt, remove cover and check it, if the fan is not running it will protect itself by shutting down. get a can of air and blow it out

it's overheating, dont turn it on anymore! replace the fan right away, if not, you could cause the processor to melt.... then your talkin $300, compared to a $20 fan.
