Did you add the drive or replace it? The difference being adding a second drive. In both cases, you need to make sure the jumper on the back of the drive is in the correct position.

1) If you added a second drive, set the jumper to SL or slave.

2) If you replaced it make sure the jumper is in the same position as the original.

The jumpers are located at the back of the DVD drive where you plugged in the gray ribbon cable and the red/black/black/yellow power.

Usually it is marked on the drive (etched into the metal) as MA, CS, SL - Master, Cable Select, Slave.

Normally it is best to use CS is only one drive, and MA and SL for two drives. If using two drives, the MA (Master) drive is the one at the end of the cable, and the SL (Slave) is the drive in the middle.

Some Dells have problems with new hardware installations, as Dell is proprietary. Check with Dell to see if your system supports it. REALLY it should work; maybe the data cable isn't plugged in right. Try opening the PC and re-plugging the cables to the drive. Make sure the jumpers on the drive are configured correctly. If nothing works, then maybe your power supply doesn't provide enough power to the system or it went bad.

If nothing works, try removing the drive and boot up without the drive. If it work fine, then maybe the drive is bad.
