Ageing PC finally gave up the ghost yesterday with too many problems to make it worthwhile to bring back to life. Brand new kit arriving shortly. Made regular back up on old PC from hard drive to external hard drive. As luck would have it, there is some data I inputted just before it went down so wish to retrieve it. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive as such, just stuck in a machine that is absolutely kaput. Any ideas?
IThanks

as your old pc is kaput, then the best course of action is to fit the hard drive from the old pc into an EXTERNAL casing and then retrieve the files from it.the external casings are cheap and run off of usb port.bad advice to fit it into the new pc as a slave drive as most pcs are sealed and if the seal stickers are broken then you will void the warranty.the only person who should enter the new pc in the first year is the repair man.unless of course you are not bothered about losing your warranty.

Take out the old hard drive then change the jumpers on the end to a slave drive. Plug it into the same cable as used in the new computer then boot it up. You will have an extra drive showing. You can then retrieve the files

You won't be able to move them onto your computer. It's impossible. 360 data will only transfer from one 360 hard drive to another.
