Have you heard some of the lame rants by a few New(Old) pagans and atheists that Jim Jones was a Christian. Even by New Age logic, this is patently false. No Christian would ever claim to be Christ. It's the New Agers that claim to be new Christs, including Jim Jones, Shoko Asahara of Aum-Shinrikyo - all are clearly New age sects. How do you call these guys Christians when they don't follow Christ but claim to be Him ? Where is that in the Christian belief ?

It gets even more lame when you see jim Jones was listed in the New age directory uptil 1972 and then quietly removed and rebranded a "Christian" extremist by the same guys after Jonesboro. I don't deny religious extremism but this one belongs firmly in the New age brand.

Really, those of us who have studied the history of the Bible and understand what influenced it and such and so forth know that anything which is solely derived from the bible carries no weight at all. When will everyone else realize this?

Because if you do, read this;
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070422/hl_...
If that doesn't convince you then I'm afraid you're beyond hope.

Viruses, just like every other living thing on this planet, evolve. Some quickly, some slowly. But they do.
That is not an opinion, it is scientific fact and theory.
(yes both are true. If you knew anything about actual science, and not just the made up crap you read in Chick comics, you'd know that)

It wont be in my lifetime thats for sure.

Why over billions of years have people had to believe in one god or another. Why not just accept there is no gods and get on with life. It would be much better for everyone and put a stop to all the agro.

What are some arguments for or against abortion, other than it's murder or a choice. Let's put aside the god aspect and I want to hear some other reasons for it. For instance, although the genticist Jerome Lejeune, who discoverd both downs and cri du chats syndrome, was catholic, I once read a remark he made against abortion on the basis that every fetus is a genetic anomoally unto its own. Antother words, the combo in gestation will never be made again or produced again. It is unique. I think this is a compelling argument outside of using god, to support the anti-abortion point of view. I believe if you anti-abortion people were making claims like this, people would be more compeled to view in your favor rather than, "It's wrong because god says so."
Anyways, what are your opinions. Everybody on both sides are free to answer. I want unique arguments for both sides.

Then again, maybe I'll just be cremated. That way they can say I was engulfed in flames for a few minutes at least.

Consider:

Abraham born 1948 years after the Creation
Israel becomes a nation again in 1948
Christ's resurrection and ascension in 33AD
Two thousand years later = 2033

And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind."

Also Isaiah 66:22--"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith Jehovah, so shall your seed and your name remain." (ASV)

Every time society predicts the end of the world, it isn't, and then we pick a new date. I read that every century and year with a symmetrical number brings about hysteria. So like 1800 had people freaking out, and 1900 had people freaking out. I remember people saying that it was the end during 1999, 2000, and 2001 because of the millennium, and then 2002 because it's so symmetrical. I was burned out on the concept by then. I remember news articles about it and even a rap song about it and this old guy I talked to obsessing about it. And then 06/06/06 (the day the remake of The Omen was released) because people thought that it was six years since Christ had risen, and not 2006 years after Christ had risen. Pesky #20. Now everybody’s chomping at the bit over 2012 because that’s when the Mayan calendar ends. My coworker went ON and ON and ON about it and I quietly thought that she was a freak. But what year will spell the end of the world as we know it after 2012?

The jolly fat guy in the red suit who slides down my chimney once a year to leave me a real new novel or a real pair of earrings is _not real_, BUT the living god who died and rose from the dead and ascended into heaven and will return someday but has never actually given me anything tangible, is absolutely positively one-hundred-percent solid-gold real?

Have I got that right?

Islam has become the world's fastest growing religion

It may be surprising to learn that Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world today, outpacing Christianity, Buddhism, and all other belief systems through a mixture of conversion and natural increase.

However, even more eye opening is the fact that Islam is the fastest-growing religion in North America. With nearly 2,000 mosques (masjids) spread throughout the continent, and populations approaching one million in some urban areas, learning about this often misunderstood faith has become more important than ever.

if it says in the bible that after you die you are only sleeping then why do people think that when you die you go to heaven because these texts say that the dead are sleeping:

Eccl. 9:5- For the living know that they sall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Matt. 9:24- He said unto them, Give placer: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth...

John 11:11- These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth: but I go that may awake him out of sleep.

if there is a text in the bible that says that you go to heaven then please tell me

Sartre believed that people lie to themselves and, underneath these lies, people negate their own being through patterns. The preceperi is similar to what today is called insight. It is necessary to get rid of bad faith.

is in the mind of the believer, i.e Christians believe in Jesus because it "makes sense" to them for whatever reason. Muslims believe in Allah because it makes sense to them. The only things that can be proven completely true (for the most part) are things that can be proven through complete scientific or logical study. Religious belief is a matter of faith and the opinion of the believer. This being said, why is religious tolerance so difficult to practice? I personally do not ask someone to think as I do. I can't expect someone to believe what I believe JUST BECAUSE I SAY SO. Just because faith can't be proven right or wrong, doesn't make it wrong.

So here's what I would like to see answered: WITHOUT using your spiritual guidebook to do so, what kind of factual proof can you offer about your faith. I am Pagan and know and accept I can not give you Proof of fact, only my personal experiences. Because of this, it's right for me, but I don't expect it to be right for others.

Two weeks later, the woman comes back with her child, and Ghandi looks him in the eye and tells him to stop eating candy.

-why didn't you tell him that two weeks ago? asked the lady.
