I read this in another answer

"spelling God without capitalizing the first letter may seem like an act of rebellion to you, but by not capitalzing His name you make unclear which god you are referring to. Given the fact that the word god can represent any number of deities most of those however have names that are more commonly used (Zeus, Thor, Sheva etc.) So you should capitalize the word God for clarity, you can even call him the name Yaweh if you like."

Can you spell irony? Its easier than atheist.

For as long as I can remember, my father has served in positions of heavy responsibility in the LDS church. I believe part of the reason he was called to these positions is that he was successful in his career, and higher-ups recognized that his leadership-skills could be well-applied within the church.

The net effect of this was that my mother raised umpteen children pretty much by herself in a constantly stressed and irritable state. I also never really got to know who my father until I grew up to be an adult.

Now that I'm a parent I look back on this situation and feel like it just wasn't right. My siblings used drugs, broke the law of chastity, and some temporarily drifted away from the church (and I had a minor scrape with law enforcement) all while my father was serving in time-consuming callings.

I cringe now when I remember how my mother used to stand up in testimony meetings to say how much the family was blessed as a result of my Father's faithful service.

Mine did, and at a very early age. I was told that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and their own set of beliefs and they are free to make their own decisions. Because of this, I cannot and will not insult other people or their religion, their lifestyle or their decisions, regardless of how much I disagree with them.

The teacher of the law asked about what was the greatest commandment. Jesus answered, "What is written in the Law?" After they agreed to that answer, the lawyer asked, "Who is my neighbor?"

In response to the question, Jesus gives the Parable of the Good Samaritan

In the context of the parable,

1. Who can be a neighbor as Jesus defines being a neighbor? It would be neighborly to do part of it and not all ...according to Jesus.
2. Who else can fulfill the law besides Jesus? If your answer is "no one", then who else can be neighborly as the law describes?
3. What is the point of the parable if Jesus is the only one who can be a neighbor to 6 billion people?

of this corny joke: Okay, so scientists found out how to make the perfect man. So they went to God and said, "We don't need you anymore God, because we can make the perfect man." God then replied, "You can, can you? Well how about we have a little contest, who ever make the best man wins?" The scientists agreed and God went first, He scooped up some dirt and threw it into the air and out of the sand came the most perfect man ever to walk the Earth. The scientists, a little uneasy from the greatness of God's man, began to work. They picked up a handful of dirt when God said, "Hey, hey....get your own dirt!"

Does this make the following claim by christian leaders a lie -
"The family that prays together, stays together"

All figures quoted are not imagined - please see sources, and verify them yourself if in doubt.

The Associated Press computed divorce statistics from data supplied by the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Center for Health.
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%

They showed that the highest divorce rates were found in the 'Bible Belt'.

A recent study by the Barna Research Group verified findings of earlier polls: that conservative Protestant Christians, on average, have the highest divorce rate, while mainline Christians have a much lower rate. They found some new information as well: that atheists and agnostics have the lowest divorce rate of all.

Why would humans with any reason and intelligence believe in "Faith" which means the belief in something which cannot be proved to be true?

Do you believe in Fairy's?
Do you believe in gobblins?
Do you believe in Santa Claus?

No???? Then why believe in God?

My husband accepted the Lord as His Personal Savior 5 months ago, he feels that his prayers has not answered. He decided to quit church. I have been in church more than 20 years. I know I have given him alot of Grace. It hasn't been easy on me and for my children. Is there any verses that you can share with me to build me up.

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

"...No baby is born but upon fitra (a natural inclination towards the Oneness of Allah). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist."

A person said: "Allah's Messenger, what is your opinion if they were to die before that (before reaching the age of adolescence when they can distinguish between right and wrong)? " He said: "It is Allah alone Who knows what they would be doing." (Sahih Muslim, Book #033, Hadith #6426)

Noticed how I picked valid not "believe".

Do not use what if a tornado a swept through a car yard and built a mercedes argument. It can be disproven through simple probability.(small steps, not large jumps.)

Do not use the "we are so wonderful and things are so wondrous argument" it must have been created, it is also disproven by evolution.( things that happen in small, steps that eliminate duds are far more probable than the big leap some people keep proposing.)

If you plan to use any of the above DO NOT bother, you will not get picked.

Hope to kick up some controversy.( I know that is what people want.) ENJOY :)

and why is that that it depends on who you ask, which parts are real and which aren't? it also seems to depend on the situation. how can we put so much credit into something (the bible) that doesn't have concrete meaning, something who's meaning you can change to accomodate you at will?

In the following regards:

(1) Once they get hooked it's harder to stop.

(2) It tends to affect the lower education strata of the population.

I ask this because a recent question on here, whether science is having an impact, made me think perhaps no amount of science can have an impact without good education -- and early.

Because church starts a lot earlier than school.

Replies from responsible individuals appreciated.

and, other than "because god says so", how can we be sure he is the best one? i know it says so in the bible and all, but that's not proof that he is the best god to follow.

just curious
