In Louisiana there was a convent for cloistered nuns..they say they were pregnant nuns. The plumber that unstopped the sewer said there were many infants there with holes in the top of their heads. My brother was an alter boy...during mass one day he had to go to the bathroom. He ran behind the alter to the vestibule and there saw a nun and priest having sex.
I personally feel the Catholic religion is wrong in forbidding young men and women to marry.
And I have talked to quite a few ex nuns who were happily married. They said they got out right before their final vows.

I am a nurse and used to work in convents and over the course of my career, have care for many priests as well.
Nuns are human like anyone else and often fall victim to the same "temptations" that everyone else experiences. Not everyone can say no, especially if they are young and are still struggling with the permanent nature of their vows.
I knew a few who talked of their "former" lives and each one of them told me they had difficulty in giving up the things that gave them physical pleasure, comfort, or satisfaction. Whether it be sex, music, food, etc. Some had broken their vows after they took them, but the convent and their life of servitude was more important to them and they returned.
We have to remember that (especially these days) for priests, it was usually a choice to serve the Church; with nuns, it was usually a result of a large Catholic family who couldn't afford to support all their children (remember, birth control is a sin so procreation was important to those of the Catholic faith) or many would be sent to the convent because they were "bad girls" and ended up just staying there as they found convent life protective and supportive.
Not all the stories people hear about nuns are true. I learned that as I worked with them. We hear about the rough ones, the abusive ones, and the ones gone astray. They only present a small percent of the population of Sisters that choose to serve and spend their entire lives doing so. In this day and age, women don't worry about being sent to the convent and forced in to at least temporary servitude, it's a choice, as it should be.
Peace,
Beki

A very sensitive question. I have known one or two (I think three) brothers/fathers (to be) having broken their vows and gone back to a married life. Comparatively very few Nuns have broken their vows and gone back to married life. As a non RC I do not condemn them. If they feel they should go back........well, it is their choice I suppose. But I would advice sticking to a vow once made. Isn't it part of integrity?

Which vows? All the nuns I have met were over 65, and probably weren't too concerned with chastity anymore.

A couple of Spanish friends who went to convent school said some of the nuns had Prada and Gucci shoes and bags.

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and [your] nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation(law): James 5:12
POINT: "Grace" is neither of two "law"s in Mt 22:36-40.
His Grace isn't law law. It doesn't make or break vows.
More Excellent: neither broadmindead nor narrowmindead.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
