I read this in another answer
"spelling God without capitalizing the first letter may seem like an act of rebellion to you, but by not capitalzing His name you make unclear which god you are referring to. Given the fact that the word god can represent any number of deities most of those however have names that are more commonly used (Zeus, Thor, Sheva etc.) So you should capitalize the word God for clarity, you can even call him the name Yaweh if you like."
Can you spell irony? Its easier than atheist.

The only two words that are capitalized without a real solid grammatical explanation are "God" and "I". For most people both are used equally selfish, i think that explains a lot.

Your wrong because God IS a prooper name. The idols who are not God aren't capitalized because they are not God. There is only one REAL God. If you want to use the name Zeus it would be capitalzed because Zeus was a character in mythology. It's like capitalzing Tom Sawyer. But when speaking of the one. true God of all not just the Christian God but the God of everybody you must capitalze it. It is not selfish. It is because that is the name he is called by by the whole world. even those who dont speak english.
Irony is this--you capitalze the word great when it is the start of the sentence--like 'Great things are coming my way' but great is not a prooper name. Now isn't that kind of silly?

I am Wiccan and I believe in The Divine which in compasses all gods including the Christian God. When I speak of my God and Goddess I capitalize them and when I speak of the Christian God I refer to him in that manner.
In my opinion there are many religions that worship many different gods and to name them by their proper name is probably the easiest for clarification sake.

Hey Cool! you got that from my question ^_^
And i was thinking about asking the same question.
I didn't do it as an act of "rebellion" If i wanted to rebel i could do bigger things then that :)
And i don't see why anyone would care if it is G or g, it still says god.

Maybe it is time to introduce a numbering system instead of capitalizing , for instance prefix god with a number that indicates the god we are talking about., the number 0 god is used for the true god, the other numbers for its helpers / sub gods

People like that make me laugh. The word god isn't a proper name, therefore you shouldn't capitalize it. It's pretty sad that they don't even know their own deity's name.

I do not know about the trademark but I separate real God from gods that God warned about with the capital G.
He is not only Christian God, but only Christians accept Him. : )
